I would just like to appologize to anyone that has read this thread. While I don't regret saying what I said, I do regret that I said it hastily, and presumed details that I shouldn't have, that I didn't stay as calm as I should have, and that I may not have come across as clearly as I would have liked to. I'm leaving off of this discussion, and to be honest, I'm not really sure what more can be said here that will do anyone any good.

Sorry all.

Don't feel sorry Knight, what you've just experienced is the main reason that I'm a lurker on many boards. Though I can understand the reactions, it still boils down to a matter of one's perspective and opinion. I recently expressed my opinion on a board discussing a facet of a recently released novel and promptly recieved a warning message and this thread was started. Coincidence? Possibly but this is where one's perspective comes in.

Personally I have found many of the things being published in the past year to have been mediocre at best, with a few gems. Now whether this is due to WotC or what I can't say, although I do know that a few sourcebooks and novels would have been for the better had the production restrictions not been as stringent. This would be my opinion.

As to the "mood" at Candlekeep, I can honestly say that it is not a unique occurance to this site. Namely many people locally I talk to, the other boards I check (one even being the official FR boards at WotC), and even some of the comments and reviews I've reading regarding many of the recently published FR books have had all one thing in common - their "mood" has been negative/dismal/reluctant whatever word you may prefer to use. So a generalization or assumption could be made from this (again this would be from my perspective) that many FR fans are a negative/dismal/reluctant (you get the idea).

What does all this mean...couldn't tell ya...I got my degree in political science, not psychology or sociology. Although I can give you my opinion, personally I get the impression that many long time FR fans are beginning to feel disenfranchised. Since I've been playing FR and lurking on the various FR boards I've heard the pleas for an increase in the amount of Realmslore and stop with the back to back realms-shattering events (which there is supposedly another one coming with the release of a new novel this fall) from the long time fans/players. Meanwhile you have the new player's clamoring for more pc classes, prc's, feats, weapons, magic, etc. (these are generalizations and are not meant to be fact) And for the long-time fans/players they started to get disgruntled and has only progressively gotten worse as they have seen their desires/wishes/wants/requests go unanswered.

My personal take on things is this. Do I like everything published for FR currently, absolutely not and as I said a lot of if it in my opinion has really only been mediocre. In fact, I regret my most recent purchase and have thought about returning it. But I am looking forward to a couple novels this month and hope that the remaining sourcebooks for this year are more in line with Powers of Faerun. Though I wish I could say that my opinion for the two only boards that I check regularly was as high as that book I want to return.

This poor opinion stems mostly from the lack of civility that occurs on these boards (though I must admit not nearly as much on the settings official boards). Being civil doesn't mean that we can't disagree with one another, nor does it require that simply because something is done by a paid author of the publisher of the setting that we can't treat them or their work the same way we do that of Joe Nobody scribe. In fact, the publishers and the authors should be critized more, not disrepectfully mind you, but more than say the Birds of Faerun or the Candlekeep Compendium (which actually have better Realmslore within them than many of the recent publications). I realize that encouragement and pats on the back are needed, but I don't give my daughter a pat on the back when she's done something wrong. So yes there has been a decline in the positiveness toward the recent publications, but perhaps, and I'm just going out on a limb here (making an assumption and generalization here so don't freak out); maybe we shouldn't be looking at where the negativity is coming from and trying to stop it but look at the cause of the negativity and perhaps figure out a way to eliminate it. But alas tis only my humble opinion, take it for what you will.

For those of you who enjoy ripping other scribes apart, as was done to Knight who by no means had anything to apologize for please feel free to dissect this post as you will; meanwhile I'll just continue to enjoy the irony of it.

Well met

Thanks all for the feedback and comments on this post, it's much appreciated to hear many of your views.

However, i'd like to close this one now as i'm sure we're all much clearer and can leave this discussion behind and concentrate on the Realms again

Thank ye.
