I have been buying up some older 2e stuff recently...and I was looking aver the Bibliography of the Realms here on Candlekeep as sort of a buyers guide...
I noticed that the Al-Qadim products (Boxed sets, accessories and 1 videogame I think) were not listed. Yet the FAQ here at Candlekeep lists Zakara as a part of Toril along with Maztica, Kara-Tur, etc...
Is there a specific reason for the omission from the Candlekeep bibliography?

I believe the omission happened because, while Zakhara is a part of Toril, it is not a part of the Realms -- the Realms do not encompass all of Toril; it's mostly Faerūn that comprises the Realms.
And all the Al-Qadim stuff was sold under its own imprint -- the Kara-Tur stuff was sold with the FR imprint. So even though Kara-Tur isn't part of Faerūn, it had the imprint and thus made the list. |

Ah....I see the reasoning now, thanks Wooly.
Of course this begs the question....
Does that make Zakhara...The Realm that No-one Forgot or perhaps The Forgettable Realm |

Nah, it makes it "The Truly Lost and Forgotten Realm that Shall Not Be Named." |

(And as an aside, when I have some spare time I'm working (incredibly slow) on making a list of Player's Guide to Faerūn-style list of regions for Zakhara.) |

Well met
Indeed, the Wooly one is correct. I have intended to have a small section here at Candlekeep to list all Al-Qadim material, just for completeness. |

I liked the Al-Qadim setting. Played my first character from it at a convention. A tall husky female harem guard...
BTW: I believe that I have all the Al-Qadim supplements if you have any general questions about them.

Note: I've been making npc's for that part of the world, but only one per other nonFaerun continent per article, in my Laborers articles for the Compendium. :) I to have all the Zakhara/Maztica/Kara-tur material. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Hey I'd believe I have noticed some inconsistency while I've been checking Zakhara's maps. On the main map (one with Al-Qadim logo) city Qudra lies in the estuary of some indescribed river (that river should not be far from islands Dahab and Lahib). There are shown two rivers in this area (second has got two tributeries, and a little gulf). However, on the map which enlarges e.g. High Desert and Sea of Caravans, mentioned river does not exist, and Qudra lies in the estuary of second river. Which map show right situation of Qudra city? - that's my obvious question. I suppose it's the map which enlarges High Desert (it is more precise). I'm asking this, a bit silly, question, cause I'm going to start a little campaign in this region, and I want to be sure about few things.
EDIT: Thanks. BTW - nice gallery ;) |

This should be the most accurate placement -

Note - this is from FRIA, and I have found some inconsistencies with those maps, mostly spelling errors. |

If you like Al-Qadim, you might be interested in the Al-Qadim links I've got (see my footer). There are two free downloads on the WotC website (Caravans and Corsairs of the Great Sea) and I've got a link to Al-Qadim.com, which is a website doing 3rd edition conversions of things from the Land of Fate. If you like WotC mailings lists, then I've also got a link to the fairly hard to find Al Qadim mailing list (AQML).
I'll put up any other Al Qadim websites, when I find out about them. |

I LOVED the Al-Qadim setting. Kinda wished they would have brought it back in the 3/3.5 edition, but maybe now in 4th! It is the Arabian Knights over-the-top type of action that 4th Edition is. |
