In all the books depicting great heroes and infamous villains, we encounter so many great sentences of both wisdom and evil. What do they have in common? They are the words of the great characters we eagerly follow in the tomes of the Forgotten Realms. Fiction yes, worthy of remembrance? I think so...
The authors of the Realms pour their thoughts of the world, both real and RPG, into our minds through the novels we enjoy and i think the golden words of these books should be shared with all in the great halls of Candlekeep.

Gah can't remember it offhand now, but the sign Elminster has at the base of his tower. Quality stuff :) |

The note tacked to the door of Elminster's Tower reads -- "Gone gathering spell components - Elminster."
The signs on the path to the Tower however are the great ones -- "Trespassers may be polymorphed." As well as -- "Enter at your own risk. Have you notified your next of kin?"

A personal favorite:- Candlekeep has but one absolute rule: "Those who destroy knowledge, with ink, fire, or sword, are themselves destroyed." Here, books are more valuable than people.

Here comes the fun of a bad memory again. Most of the quotes I can think of mean little out of their context. The ones that come first to mind are the various interruptions of the Banite ceremonies by Fzoul in Crown of Fire, but as I said, as stand alone quotes they become a little meaningless.
The only single sentence from a Forgotten Realms novel that really sticks out in my mind even after ten years is from War in Tethyr, with the Deepspawn being discussed "He's the nexus of the crisis and the origin of storms". That is one song qoute I never thought I would see anyone being able to use in a different context. Any guesses on which song? |

Ten points for BÖC, I had forgotten the Metallica version.
This comes in second place when it comes to strange rock analogies in FR products, the first place of course goes to Slade's ( or maby Jim Butler?) naming of the seven villages of Netheril after members of ex-Deep Purple singer Ian Gillans late seventies bands Gillan and the Ian Gillan band. That still makes me cringe to this day.
Sorry for going of topic, back to the qoutes. |

Sounds like a piece of inspiration best forgotten... But keep the quotes and other nostalgic sentences coming. |

Ah...I had forgotten this one, which would be one of my my all time faves...
Oghma to Torm: "Maybe that´s what´s been wrong with us all these eons, no sense of passion. You should instruct your faithful to belt out a paean to a loved one each morning - you know, a song to their horses or their swords..." (Prince of Lies) |

I'm astonished no one has mentioned all the GREAT "quotable quotes" Ed of the Greenwood puts at the head of his novel chapters, and at the beginnings of some of his sourcebooks, too. A few only have impact in context, but most of them are as pithy as all the philosophy I had to plow through in high school and university. Literally dozens of "words of gold."

Mintiper's "Ballad of a Tyrant" from Ed's So High a Price short story in REALMS OF INFAMY is a personal favorite...

the piece of text when www.candlekeep.com is opened is high on my list of Words of Gold. Have even used it in my campaigns as a handout to the players. A letter from Alaundo to the players who have been a great part of the world changing happenings during the times of trouble, and without thinking of personal gain, but with the good of the world in mind... I found it fitting for the situation as they have been contacted by a scribe who have written their story and delivered it to the great halls of Candlekeep. |

Lacking any of My Books and such here Only one Quote Springs to Mind and it's not from A book but the BG Series game: "I cannot Be Caged. I cannot Be Controlled. Know this as you Die; ever pathetic, Ever Fools!"
When I have access to the books again I'll pour over the tomes for the quote that I enjoy the most. Most Likely it'll be from Tertius Wands |

Ah Sage that I could Never forget I was downplaying the fact that said words were not (as I recall) mentioned in the Books (since no one can blame Me since the books are sadly forgetable ) |
