Nice scene when Will and Jivex travel over to the dwarves to halt their attack and tell them that the Ice Queen is dead. I loved the dwarf they spoke to, a typical gruff dwarf in proper dwarven gear... old school

The confrontation with Zethrindor was excellent. One hell of a risk but worked out quite well. Very well executed and I kind of felt sorry for him when he was swarmed upon, then when he was silenced from casting a spell.

Funny end to the chapter again when Jivex wondered why they weren't applauding him instead

Another part I found amusing was when Stival thought Natali dead and was talking out loud about his feelings and proposal...when she snapped up and took him up on the offer! Women!

I loved the next chapter and the return to the dragon meeting, which harked back to the first book in the trilogy. The divination scene was very well done and very atmospheric. Sad about Moonwing though.

These dragons sure are pesimistic... they should at least try things no matter what. At least Nexus etc finally said that they were willing to die trying rather than succumb to the Rage.

Excellent so far, certainly has a nice epic feel to it, as well as being on a personal level too.

Of course, part of why the dragons are pessimistic is that they have to cast spells just to stay sane from day to day, but I get your point.

I agree about Jivex. Like I said back in the last set of chapters, its funny to see a faerie dragon's sensibilities, as they are like a fey mixed with a dragon's ego.

Will has definately seized my attention, between moving in on Taegan's role as Jivex's straight man, and figuring out how to turn the army against the dracolich, leave it to halfling common sense.

I continue to be impressed with Pavel's balancing act between ladies' man, cleric, and crusader for good. I like how he can't walk past a wounded person without trying to help, how he goes without healing himself, and how it takes everything he's got to be able to keep from turning on Brimstone.

Dorn seems like he might do something unwise before he gets a chance to find out that Kara is still alive, which would be a shame, but I almost get the feeling that there may be a classic tradgedy building in this aspect of the story.

I get the feeling that while Dorn feels some affection and attachment to all of his fellow hunters, that Raryn is his closest friend. He seems to dwell on Raryn almost as much as Kara. I'm glad I read "Rivals" because it shows that part of this might stem from the idea that Raryn is the first person Dorn ever really trusted.

The fight with the dracolich was a great fight scene. I don't know what to add, but it felt like a titanic struggle, and I really liked how it played out.

The Stival and Natali scene was great. It interesting that I actually worried about Natali and was releived when she turned out to be alive even when she had so little time featured in the book.

It definately feels like everything is building to a head now, but its interesting that Sammaster has only shown up in Iyraclea's flasback so far. Oh, and apparently my whole Iyraclea conpsiracy theory is out the window, but then again, I'm glad everything isn't telegraphed.

Unfortunately I have yet to read "Rivals" But I agree that Raryn does seem to be Dorn's most closest friend.

Pavel quickly became one of my favored characters in this novel. He really stood out in this novel much more than he had previously. I especially liked his interactions and conflicts with Brimstone who was one of my other favorites.

Indeed. Though I'd rather see Zethrindor fight Sammaster.

Every beginning has an end.
