Anybody read "The Glass Prison" novel? What are your views? From the blurb that ive read it doesnt appear to give off a Realms flavor, more of an other-worldly\outer planes feel to it. Im likely to be corrected on this though. Is it worth reading?

This book was indeed very different then most FR books, the main Charater seems to be a morally dilema'ed Half-Demon that escapes his realm and lands on Faerun.
the story is basically about his exploits after arriving, its blurry to me because i read it back in april of 99, but i believe a demon is somewhere on faerun that he must destroy or something, lol
i suggest reading it , the main is a Half-Demon and that alone is unusual enough to intrest me!!! |

| I thought it was a pretty decent novel, standard realm fiction I would say. As the previous speaker said, it got a pretty different main character, quite interesting. |

Where in the Realms is the novel based? Are there specific locations mentioned. I just have an impression of a half-demon wandering around some unnamed wasteland in the Realms and stumbling upon the odd minor village!
Maybe I should detach myself from this image of it being some kind of outer planes novel

There is a map of the area he is in, in the book , north at Shadowdale down to the ArchenBridge....so basically inbetween Cormyr and Sembia is where he is.
and yea its not a Planescape type book at all!!!! |

Please Tiax, just please stop filling these boards with your rantings about Dwarves.
I know you really like them, as I am sure do many others who come on this forum. We have read your threads about which is best and we have given our replies.
Now please, if you have not got anything better to say about the topic of the Glass prison or any of the topics you keep posting in, then please do not say anything at all. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way, and this kind of behaviour will only get you banned from the forum.
Now back to the Novel!

Just finished this book last night. A pretty decent read, and though Cook's writing is pretty simplistic, he carries the story along well.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
The main protagonist, Vheod the half-demon, is a concept that has been used before (a virtuous warrior trying to overcome his dark nature), but the character is likeable. The beginning of the book is excellent (the prologue), and I also enjoyed the final confrontation with the balor Chare‘en. Vheod did seem a little . . . should I say, naïve, maybe . . . to truly be half-demon, but overall I was pleased. Cook didn’t try to cram excessive amounts of FR lore into the story, thus making the book story-driven rather than setting-driven. I did enjoy reading about Tilverton, considering it no longer exists. Any others thoughts? |

| I'll always recommend a realms novel.I'm pretty much with the consensus that it was a good read,and the main character was a half-demon.Which is different from your typical hero.That in itself should be reason to try it out. |

| For some odd reason, I was able to read this book faster than I have ever read any other book in my entire life. In fact, the most vivid memory I have of the Glass Prison is the speed with which I read it. Not a bad read either. I must have been manic that day. |

| I remember it being is really quick read as well. As I posted earlier, Cook's writing is simplistic, but it flows well and he doesn't bog down the narrative with an overabundance of pointless description. He sticks with what's important. I'd love to have him write another FR tale. |

I'd also recommend this novel. I'd disregarded it for years and left it to be one of the last few that i'd read... it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Strangely, I also belted through it in a day or two  |
