Hey all,

I wanted to take the sages advise to make a thread here. it has come to my attention, after several months of participating here, that there is indeed a chat room. go here www.psionics.net

The instructions are simple go to the website
1. click on chat
2. type in your candlekeep username
3. click on the enter "once"
4. then go to channel
5. then scroll down and click on candlekeep. See not so hard

This is something that seems cool to me and would be great to have greater participation in. I would advise reading through the code of conduct there, as it differs slightly from this site. I understand that it is not affiliated, but that Alaundo and several other sages of this great place have worked to get this going for our use.

anyway, enough rambling, check it out

Mod edit: I'm making this scroll a "sticky" for now... so it gets regular attention.

For more IRC-proficient scribes:

#candlekeep, on irc.psionics.net, port 6667[IRC default].

Read the /motd, so forth and so on, blah blah blah.

not sure why, but this chatroom is no longer available through the site. Any help from my fellow scribes and sages??, or is this a mute point

I've checked in there several times and it's always one person (Arivia) and always away. I don't know if it's a time zone issue or if people haven't really been using it.

I too have noticed that the candlekeep room was not available today.

Same here, I feel that Arivia is lonely sometimes, all by herself, waiting for scribes like us to join her to share some realmslore . But yes for the past couple of days, this has been off of the channel sections, I hope this does not mean the beginning of the end for the candlekeep chat

It should be noted that java appears to need to be enabled to use the website. I have not done much with IRC clients recently, but that should work for those less security minded (that have java enabled in the first place, for example).

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

Nah, I'm okay. It's just another tab in my IRC client; there's plenty of discussion in the other tabs to keep me going.

As have I, though I should really make more of an effort for the Candlekeep section .

Well,

See... it's also a time zone issue.

So, I guess I'm asking is when people are usually on and what those times equal in the other time zones. :)

Oh, btw, I'm here most of the day and until 3AM eastern, usually. Except usually from midnight till I fall asleep is my reading time.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I usually check in and see if anybody is on between 9 pm and midnight eastern standard time. I usually stop in, see Arivia is away and then go in another direction.

I actually am not very Chat Room saavy (as mentioned before) and I can't seem to figure out how to put myself "away", that way I can stay logged in as well.

it is back up today. I am usually on from 530 when I get home from work and sporadically into the night, until about 1030 pacific standard time

Type in "/away" without the quotation marks, obviously.

EDIT: There are actually 2 of us in there right now!

The chanel exists whenever anyone wishes it to exist. The posts to it expire in a very short time so a visit to it can result in seeing no activity at all. I am not sure of what current hang time in, but ages ago (when a rodent powered my internet connection) hang time was as low as 2 minutes, a good connection host you could get 15 minutes.

It is IRC (Instant Chat Relay) it is not ICQ, AIM, Yahoo or MSN messages that pales and exceeds what IRC was and is.

this has been frustrating to me. I would love to have chat access. However, does not appear to pick up to much strength. People talk about it, it starts up, then fizzles out. I was visiting said site and always found Ariva around, but hardly anyone else. If we could get more scribes to participate, i think that this would/ could be a great avenue for all of us realms fans.

Part of the problem may be that a lot of fellow scribes can access the internet from work, and surfing the web and posting to threads isn't too hard to do when one is between pressing assignments, but actually sitting in a chatroom while at work can be . . . unkindly viewed by one's employer.

without a doubt. I work for a state government and it would be cause for termination of employment to do so. The great thing about this site though, is that it has members from all over the world. someone would basically be hanging around 24/7

I would like to chat with the others as well, but part of the reason I don't get IRC, is that is just one more thing on my already not happy computer. I have too many IM programs, forums, etc. already that I use, that I really wouldn't have the time to actually chat.

Ack! I seem to have too much blood in my coffee stream!

When did 'common sense' cease to be common?

Try as I might, but I cannot seem to find the #Candlekeep channel on the challen list :(

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood

Well met

Sorry, Mazrim_Taim. I'm able to help he on this as it wasn't set up by Candlekeep. I believe Arivia initiated the channel, mayhaps she can help?

That would be nice. Maybe I am just overlooking it somehow. I tend to do that with the most obvious of things.

Me and Kentinal were thinking. The sticky should be edited so that people know to create the channel if it doesn't exist already when they get there. All you have to do is /join "Candlekeep" and the channel will be created if it does not exist already.
