Okay...

After leveling up my bard as a bard/sorceror, it occurred to me that I should familiarize myself with the sorceror class (duh). In doing so, I noticed a little bit of a rule-nazi thing that could make playing more than one magic-class really difficult.....

Bards have to "play" to receive spells after resting for 8 hours - be it singing, playing an instrument, whatever for 15 min...

Sorcerors have to rest for 8 hours as well, and then "concentrate" for 15 min. on their magic to receive spells...

Does a multi-class sor/bard have to rest for 16 hours and concentrate/play for 30 min.? Now, I am lucky because as an elf, my sor/bard can go into reverie and play his lute/"sleep" at the same time....

I think I know the answer...but I thought I might pool the minds of Candlekeep and see what you folks think....

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

Concentration doesn't mean absolute silence, some people concentrate better with a little music in the background. Nothing would stop your bard from making a little music while concentrating, actually it makes more sense, this way the 'concentration' part would work for both spellcasting classes...

Just my 2cp on the matter

What about resting, though?

Just the regular 8 hours... it is to give the body and mind rest so it can accept the load of arcane or divine triggers for the day, independent of how many spellcasting classes the character has.

One doesn't need extra sleep/rest the night before if one has two exams in one day either... right?

Sure, i think the same as Mumadar.
Rest of 8 hours (4 in this case, you're an elf) then 15 minutes of preparation

first of all - indeed - I figured not but 8 hrs of rest, but I would rule that the bard must play, the sorceror must concentrate, and he cannot do both at the same time...so, 8 hrs. rest, 30 min. after-studying...

Secondly....4 fours? Elves only need 4 hours...?!?!? Where did I miss THAT?
