Well, I can't attest to the actual presence or lack of presence of bards in Depths.
There WAS however a bard I wrote in, who died in around chapter three, before I revised his role drastically. But did I write him out or right him in, deeper? You decide. |

I expect to see poor Alin again sometimes!...if only to hear his rhyming abilities-nice litle nod to him in Ghostwalker.
Nice representation of Graz'zt, too. Been a while since I've even heard his name |

Glad you thought so, Ethriel!
Graz'zt is an old favorite of mine from my high school 2e days. It's uncertain whether that was an actual physical manifestation of the beastie himself, or whether he merely sent an aspect in his place. Either way -- demon got lucky.
And that -- for the sake of good taste -- is all I'll say about that.

Heh, thanks for the information, Erik. Can't wait to read (and comment on!) the novel when it finally comes out. |

sweeeet!!!! I knew the folks at WotC would dig a novel with Twilight! I've been banking on the characters in "the Greater Treasure" appearing in your upcoming books. It's even better that it is going to be your next one! I was kinda hoping you'd work Yldar into it too, I realize that Twilight was the more unique character of the book, but her impact on Yldar and what he went through in the story makes me kind of want to see what is next for him. Anyways, cheers, I look foward to reading Depths when it is out. |

It is certainly possible that Yldar will return -- and likely Cythara too (since he'll be chasing her across the Realms, which is why he and Twilight probably won't show up together). I don't rule anything out where Wizards is concerned.
Another reason Yldar and Twilight don't make a lot of sense in a subsequent book together is, well. . . it's like the Bond-girl thing. Twilight's been there, done that. I'll have to hire some pretty man-flesh of a different sort for the next one. A new Fox-guy?

I'm going to channel the Fox-at-Twilight herself to answer that. Hold up a sec. . . .
[Arcane syllables, gestures. . .]
Ah. You've called me again? [stretch] Wh. . .?
Ooh, I see. Lovely.
Well then. I've two questions for you, Walker. . . What might I. . . do for this key, and what might it. . . unlock?
[End of spell]
Whew! Channeling that minx is hard work.
Or, perhaps, just *strenuous* work.
And on that note. . .

Hmmm... tough questions indeed. *rolls up sleeves*
Im thinking that she finds information somewhere that states that I...(Ahem), ummm.. this fictional Scribe of candlekeep holds the "key to the treasure of her hearts desire". Of course she initially beleives it is for what she is seeking in "The Depths of Madness", and it is indeed crucial to her quest, but unknowns to her at the time it is their journey together that is the key that will unlock her heart.
As to what she could do to acquire this key, would be best left unsaid.
Or if it must be said I would rather have someone such as Rin say it!! |

What makes you think she's going to survive the Depths without y... I mean, this red-head scribe to protect her?
And I think we both know very well what manner of key we're talking about, and how it might be. . . obtained. Do I need to break out that spell again and start channeling Ed of the G-wood?
(Yep, yep -- that is indeed what I just called him. )
And on that note. . . before we delve too deeply into future plotlines.

If we...I mean she and the red-head scribe do not survive, how can you do a trilogy on them in the near future?
Are you sure you have the necessary bandwidth to channel "Ed of the G-wood"? We would not want yo to fall victim of a backlash. And if you do, that would be quite interesting channeling indeed!
In all , I found "The Greater Treasure" to be a fine story with interesting characters. I am glad you have earned the chance to follow up with Twilight. It is a pleasure to watch you "star" rise within the realms, as it portends good reading for all! |

There's always resurrection spells. Or, when those don't work, plot devices.

Ed is indeed all that. I only spent an hour or so with him last time we met, and his emanataions were quite enough for any mortal mind to absorb without bursting.

And on that note, I think we should probably stop with the innuendo before it gets *ahem* out of hand.

I agree, but must say that there a few characters more "worthy" of innuendo than 'light.
On another note, since we now now where the Ynoleth's bracers are, is the location of the Shattering Swords known? (please excuse any spelling or slight mis-naming of items, as I am far removed from my books at the moment) |

You got it pretty close. It's Ynloeth. Well done!
As far as those of us who aren't Realmslore gods (like Ed, Eric, Richard, Steven, etc.) or their vassals (a few of those authors they choose to feast at the banquet of knowledge) know, the Shattering Swords of Ynloeth were last known to be in the proximity of Hellgate Keep, having been lost there in a great battle. (I'm pretty sure it talks about it, just a little, in Lost Empires of Faerun)
As for what's happened to them since, well, we don't really know (and by we, I mean most of the world). A number of things have happened at Hellgate: destruction of the keep itself, migration of Kaanyr Vhok and the sexilicious Aliisza, Sarya Dlardrageth (now it's my turn to brutalize names) and her daemonfey. . . any of these could have resulted in the swords having been moved or claimed. Or they could still be there, somewhere beneath the wreckage.
(In other words, they're wherever DMs want them to be.)
Canonically, I have not the least idea where they might be, nor do I know if there are any plans to involve them in a story of some kind at some point.
I would, however, point out that they're part of a matching set, and the third of their number -- the Bracer -- is now in the hands of a certain gold treasure hunter who finally has some real purpose to his life.
Will Yldar come through and pursue the Swords as well? Will we see Yldar's Epic Quest(TM) or, more appropriately (as one of us pointed out), Yldar's Unexpected Breakthrough(TM)? Or will someone kill our foppish and generally easily-manipulated sun elf, claim the bracer, and find the swords himself/herself?
Only time will tell.
We certainly know that *Twilight* isn't searching for the Bracer. . . unless that's what Depths is actually about (maybe. . . maybe not). I know *exactly* what our little fox is up to in the Year of Lightning Storms, but I suppose everyone else will just have to wait and see.
Cheers
P.S. As an interesting sidenote, this story ("tGT") originally appeared in my head around one joke, and it was one of the last I wrote in the story. It's three little sentences on page 165. |

I was going for the most up-to-date source that I knew of. I know the swords are also mentioned in PGtF, but not much (if anything) about locale.
Are you talking about the 2e Hellgate Keep? 'Cuz I'm pretty sure it's in there. 'Twould be really awesome if there were a 3.5 Hellgate module. . . . is there?

My money is on Yldar's Epiphany (TM) , when he realizes how important the bracer can be if re-united with the swords.

Seems like the FR modules and source books would hold much information that would interest me. But , since I have never played FR or cracked open one of those tomesbefore, it seems quite a daunting task to undertake.(Mayhaps even quite expensive) |
