Hi,

I'm looking for any info about the lair of the Savants of the Dark Tide (Aboleth in Waterdeep) named the Drain of Madness (a secret part of the sewers).

(Of course, I mean info coming from another source than CoS).

I created it for City of Splendors: Waterdeep.

The only thing this hook builds on is the invasion of Waterdeep that occurred in 1369 DR, giving us the cloak for the infiltration, and a brief reference in the back of Ruins of Undermountain, that refers to a war in the Underdark depths below the Sea of Swords between aboleths and drow.

Thanks for this quick answer Eric.

My player's will try to rescue a NPC captured there, (5 characers, average level 14) but they suspect that it could be very dangerous. I plan to use only one member of the trio for this encounter.

I'll try to prepare this deadly place with stuff from Lords of Madness.

(For those who may thinks I'm a cruel DM, they will got an opportunity to deal to get him back via the enslaved guildmaster).

I can't remember how much of this made the final cut, but my intent was that the three aboleths are searching for something called the "Sargauth Swimmer".

If you look in Lords of Madness, there's a discussion of what can happen to an aboleth who "dries out" along the way. My idea was that these three are actually following clues to find the dessicated corpse of the Sargauth Swimmer. If they can find it, they hope to rehydrate it and use its legendary powers in their endless war with the drow.

You might let the PCs find clues to this beastie's existence.

The Sargauth Swimmer is there.. maybe I'll trow a hint about it at, for when they'll be powerfull enough to battle the aboleths.

They are curently busy with the Unseen/Xhanatar and may try to fight your greater doppleganger posing as Lord Huld Belanbrantha(sp?) very soon.

You should ping the Dragon editors on the paizo boards for the article on the Unseen they promised (in Dungeon) to print eventually.

:-)

It details that greater doppelganger.

Talking about the Unseen, would you have stated Hlaavin as a psion instead of a sorcerer if you could have do it ?

My player's recently met him under his Mask's conscript identity, doing a meeting in the Dungeon of the Crypt. And after what they have done, they'll surely meet him again.. with some Mind flayer help I think

After three failed assassination attemp agaisn't them by your Naztharune Rakshasa (hired by the Unseen), they finaly caught and destroyed him

Next time they make trouble in the Dungeon of the Crypt, I put your terrible Medechai on their case

I'd say that would be wholly consistent with his background and probably a slightly stronger choice. On the other hand, one could argue that he managed to escape the illithids notice (to some extent) but developing sorcerous powers (which they downplay) in lieu of psionic powers (which they value). The explanation depends also on whether both are psionic, the illithids are psionic and Hlaavin is sorcerous, or both are sorcerous.

You might also look at my conversion notes for the Hall of Harsh Reflections to learn more about the tensions between Hlaavin and the illithids of Ch'Chitl. You could certainly include that adventure in your campaign as well.

At least he didn't go easy! ;-)

She doesn't get out much, but she's a barrel of laughs at parties.

Oh so much thanks to point me out those notes I forgot about. Guess which NPC I planned to use very soon.. The "petrified" Mind flayer of course! (I'll add to him some class levels with an 14th-level party)

Since the beginning of this campaign, you have "given me" so much of materials I needed, that it's beggining to sound weird (return of Marune in CoS, Dungeon of the Crypt in Dungeon, maybe the Unseen in Dragon..) I should decide now what I need to finish this campaign and we will surely get it somewhere... Well, I can dream about it.. (I plan to make Marune send them to Greyhawk to capture the "real" Kehlben.)

Edit : Hmmm.. I tought about something they'll surely do and that could be done somewhere : An updated lair of the Eye in Undermoutain level 3 and a first-time development of the (old) lair in the sewer, with all those portals they use and that are detailled nowhere. Of course this could include the use they make of the "Pirate" mansion in Skullport and the various hideout of Aveareenne above. That sounds like a good aventure no ?

2nd Edit : Job's done on Paizo's boards
