Wow, thanks for all the info. on Half-Elven Gods. And yes, there are Orc Gods, I currently know of two, but their names escape me right now, as for Goblins, I'm not sure, but I'll bet there is one, or a few even. The Great Drizzt |

Jeffrey already mentioned the big boss of the orcish pantheon, but there are indeed more, as well as for the goblin(oid)s. For 2nd edition the gobliniod and orcish pantheon appears in Monster Mythology, including statistics for clerics, witchdoctors or shamans.
For 3rd edition, Gruumsh of course appears in the Player's Handbook. Of the other deities I don't recall of the top of my head if they have been re-published. |

I recall reading about Gruumsh the One-eyed and his battle with Correllon Larethian where he lost his eye, but I didn't know that he was an orcish god. |

You managed to find a copy of Demi-Human Deities (Forgotten Realms second edition accessory), it will have an amazing cover of Gruumsh losing his eye to the big chief of the Elven Pantheon. It real is a colectors items, even for one-eyed orcs.

This is the tale the shamans tell, in the camps of the Orcs when the night is deep on the world and dawn is far away: In the beginning all the gods met and drew lots for the parts of the world in which there representative races would dwell. The human gods drew the lot that allowed humans to dwell were they pleased, in any enviroment. The Elven gods drew the green forest, the Dwarven deities drew the high mountains, the Gnomish gods the rocky, sunlit hills, and the halfling gods picked the lots that gave them the fields and meadows. Then the assembled gods turned to the Orcish gods and laughed loud and long. "All the lots are taken!" they said tauntingly. "Where will your people dwell, One-Eye? There is no place left!"
There was silence upon the world then, as Gruumush One-Eye lifted his great iron spear and stretched it over the world. The shaft blotted the sun over a great part of the lands as he spoke: "No! You lie! You have rigged the drawing of the lots, hoping to cheat me and my followers. But One-Eye never sleeps, One-Eye sees all. There is a place for Orcs to dwell...here!" He bellowed, and his spear pierced the mountains, opening mighty rifts and chasms. "And here!" and the spearhead split the hills and made them shake and covered them in dust. "And here!" and the black spear gouged the meadows, and made them bare.
"There!" roared he who watches triumphantly, and his voice carried to the ends of the world. "There is were the Orcs shall dwell! There they will survive, and multiply, and grow stronger, and a day will come when they will cover the world, and they shall slay all of your collected peoples! Orcs shall inherit the world you sought to cheat me of!"
Thats just one of the tales they tell. But there are other Orcish gods, like: Bahgtru(Gruumsh's son), Shargaas(god of orcish thieves, Ilneval(god of Orcish warriors), Yurtrus(god of Orcish assasssins)Luthic(god of Orc females, and Bahgtru's mother). Anyway these existed back in the days of 1st ed, I still have the tomes that carry all the information and stats. Im just surprised that they didnt carry over into the new editions. |

Great Tale And rest assured, I believe all the gods mentioned above have been 'converted' to the 3rd edition (they were converted to 2nd). Heh, if they didn't convert, how would they take over the world? |

The Great Drizzt; Yes you are correct I do know to much of Orc-kind, having to hunt them makes you a better... well hunter... But im also a plethora of knowledge on some of the other races as well.
Mumadar; Lol; I'm glad they could make the "conversion" although i'm sure the other races arent as happy...
Incidently I am glad you all enjoyed the tale of the Orcish Pantheon, it was originally printed in a Dragon magazine, then re-printed in "Unearthed Arcana"(1st ed players man. Vol.2) |
