My group in the Forgotten Realms wants to do the Return to The Temple of Elemental Evil campaign for the 3rd edition D&D. I've already figured out a way to fit the whole campaign in as far as deities go but I am at a loss as to the best possible place to plop down Hamlet and the temple and all that. I was wondering if some of the sages here could help?

I had an old forum name but forgot the email and username =(

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood

I meant Hommlet of course, sometimes late at night I get my campaigns confused.

First you want to transplant the Temple of Elemental Evil, now you want to put Denmark into the Realms . . . wow, that's ambitious . . .

Sorry, couldn't resist.

As long as he keeps the rot in it from spreading to the rest of the Realms

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

Well met, Mazrim!

I suggest that you start by using an existing village/hamlet, and converting Hommlet to suit that location. I personally don't like the idea of "dropping" existing Greyhawk/Eberron/Dragonlance/Etc locations into FR "as they are" (I have actually played the "Return to the Temple..." in FR, and Hommlet didn't just seem to fit in the North ;).

Still, IMHO using one of the villages in the Silver Marches would probably be the best option. Somewhere near Nesme or the Nether Mountains, perhaps, since the Savage Frontier is full of ancient dungeons and ruins (many of them of Netherese origin). Perhaps Xonthal's Keep or Morbryn's Shield (if I remember my FR geography right ;)

I would probably replace Iuz with either Gargauth or Bane/Xvim, Zuggtmoy with Moander, and St. Cuthbert with Tyr or Torm. It might even be fun to link the temple with Netherese origins, hey? (just a thought ;) Hopefully this helps...

Thanks Asgetrion.

I was actually looking at Daggerford because it is pretty similar to Hommlet. I'll be taking all the Greyhawk stuff and coverting it to Forgotten Realms, then putting it in. The forces from the North that came to save Hommlet could very well be from Waterdeep, they aren't too specific in the campaign book.

I like the idea of linking the Temple with Netherese origins a lot though, that would make the campaign feel Forgotten Realmsish

Ooh. Now that's an idea. I've been looking for a replacement for Iuz (see my other thread), and I think Gargauth _might_ just fit. I'll have to actually obtain the ToEE module before I get too deep into my plans, but this sounds like an acceptable option for my campaign.
