Can't seem to track this down after searching the site and a couple of bookstores:

Is "Archmage" a prestige class in 3e/3.5e, and if so, what does it enable one to do?

Seems as though I caught a snippet of a Pharaun Mizzrym stat block around here (from the WotSQ series, if anyone doesn't know), and he was referred to as a Wizard 17/Archmage 2. I also dimly recall from the Epic Level Handbook (browsed at a bookstore but not purchased), that the Simbul has a few levels of Archmage as a class.

So, my question is--what does this class allow a character to do, in a nutshell? Metamagic feats? Making a fireball cause cold- or acid-based damage? Extending the range/increasing the area of effect/increasing the damage caused by a particular spell? Am I on the right track here?

Thanks!

The Archmage is in the DM's Guide so it should not be too difficult to get your hands on. In a nutshell, the Archmage allows the caster to sacrifice spells per day in order to gain some pretty significant ablilities.

Check under Prestige Classes in the SRD, the SRD can be found here...

Yes. And the prestige class is, too, in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3.0

Dwarf, DM, husband, and proud of this! :P

You're so on track I swear you've already seen the thing.

Afraid not. All I've seen so far is Elminster's and the Simbul's listings in the Epic-Level Handbook. It mentioned something under their entries about them having the ability to change the type of damage inflicted by a spell they cast (making a fireball do acid-based damage, IIRC), but I wasn't sure if that was a function of the Archmage class or the fact that they're Chosen.

Thanks for the additional info--I'll check out the SRD.
