Frostburn, I believe, has them and other monsters that would work great for that part of FR. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Yeti were also in Oriental Adventures.
I had some characters passing through the Spine of the World on the way back from Ten Towns once.
I actually used a yeti, which they killed, and then got tracked and hunted by the yeti's mate, who I had given psychic warrior levels. She attacked them psionically while they were camping for the night. That was a surprising and fun encouter for the group.
There was also an an encounter with a Frost Worm. (Beware of Death Throes, they can be pretty nasty!)
At the height of the pass, the party was captured by a tribe of kobolds led by a white dragon and her brood of white half-dragon/half-kobolds lairing up in the mountain tops. Good ol' Theriantherax turned out to become a recurring villain that plagued the party at several turns in future adventures.
Then later as they descended from the Spine of the World mountains down into the finger lakes below, they ran into a hunting party of Black Raven tribe Uthgardt barbarians. The party was not able to sort out their differences with the barbarians and a battle ensued. In the confusion a roc-sized black raven was summoned to defend the Uthgardt and soon party members were plumetting out of the sky.
A good time was had by all. |

FR5 "the savage frontier" stats that most rivers freeze between Uktar (November) and Ches (March), so maybe the pass can be close during the same period.

The Forgotten Realms Dungeon Master's Screen has a great selection of wilderness encounters in areas such as the Spine of the World, and so does Silver Marches. |

Amen to both those sources, Damian! Those charts have both been very helpful to me at times. The ones in Silver Marches are great, the ones in the Encounter booklet that came with the DM screen is even more fantastic.
Although I seem to have misplaced my copy of the little booklet of late. Thanks for remininding me. I will have to try to dig it out. |
