So far the earliest reference I can find is
-349 A Topaz Dragon rules Westgate until its overthrone by Netherese Wizard
Anyone remember or know of any older references?

No date reference, but Ed Bonny says that Auppenser traditionally used an amethyst dragon as his herald, and that would have been throughout the reign of the Jhaamdathan civilization. See this link here:

Actually, the gem dragons are a natural match to pair with the psionically sophisticated Jhaamdathans. |
