Just a comment ... and I assume that this issue has been discussed ...
I think that NPCs in FR products should be presented with their birth dates, for example, Moungrym Amcathra (NG male Chondathan/Tethyrian human fighter 8, 13XX DR). And, if dead, their "death date". Undead could have some additional data ... for example, "1200 DR - 1280 DR, undead". Dates could also be applied to buildings, communities, kingdoms, and so on.
Please note that Moungrym Amcathra is listed in "City of Splendors: Waterdeep" as a Chondathan human, when his parents are listed as Tethyrian human ...

Brian R James work, A Grand History of the Realms, does a pretty good job of listing NPC birth dates and other important days.

Eric has discussed this over here in this scroll. Here's a direct quote -
quote: Challas and possibly Miri should be Chondathan. My mistake.
Why is the family Chondathan? 22% of Waterdeep's population is Chondathan, so it makes sense that some of the noble families are as well.
Mourngrym is still in Shadowdale. His parents are visiting Shadowdale at the present time.
Arilos is the first son of Challas and Miri. Regnet is the second son of Arilos. Mourngrym is Arilos's younger brother.
The current time is Midsummer, 1374 DR.

Hi The Sage,
Thanks for pointing to Brian's work.
I assume, that at the beginning, dates were not as important in the Forgotten Realms as they are today. But with time, more and more details have been added to the Realms. Today, dates are very important. What I am stating, commenting, is that I would always like to see birth dates in addition to the short short version of stats (Alignment, Gender, ethnic group and race, class and level) in every product. I do not believe that dates will always be part of character's stats. But, I can hope that that will the case in the future ... who knows, maybe a dude or two at Wizards of the Coast thinks that birth dates must be mandatory ...
Now, what can I do? Well, I can follow my own suggestions, that is, take the time that is needed to write down each of my NPCs birth dates. Maybe, other folks at Candlekeep will do the same ...
Best regards, Manuel |

the heroes and the villains of realms live really long as you know... espacially villains... lichdom...etc :)
but such an date idea would be cool... because this reflects the characters better |
"Yes my ravenous friend" he said quietly, "but there remains two problems."
"First, I work alone."
"And second," Entreri continued, without missing a breath, "you are dead." |

I haven't considered the idea. I do know the birth dates of all my NPCs and my players' PCs, but I have never included them as "statistics". It's kind of complicated, since most Realms characters don't look their age. It would be necessary to differentiate between "true age" and "apparent age". |
