However not absolutely necessary: wisely chosen, primarily instrumental music can, if used properly, add a fine touch to GMing a campaign. I was wondering if anyone else here might have some other ideas for bands or sound tracks. So far, the following have worked:
Enya: Good for traveling, town crusing, forests, adventurous moments, the like.
Lord of the Rings sound track: Ya, its cliche, but it works! Good for a variety of things, but similar to Enya.
Apocalyptica: For those who don't know, they are a finish band that plays hard core rock with only four wooden cellos (if you don't believe me, look em up!). However rock is initially a genre that is too distracting, Apocalyptica is nonlyrical and in many regards shares similarities to classical music. Good for battles, and for fiery places.
Pirates of the Carribian sound track: Used mainly for campaigns in Sembia or the Dragon's coast.
Gladiator Sound track: better for more noble or idealistic areas, such as Cormyr.
