Actually Daggerdale was originally called Merrydale before the dale was hard hit by a vampiric infestation. I think it occured in Year of Gray Mists (796 DR), a sad and fear filled year for the folk in Merrydale. The vampiric infestation was vanquished with great cost and because of the incidents that happened in the dale during this year, Merrydale came to be known as Daggerdale. |

I am not sure who led the vampires in Merrydale and why they specifically chose Merrydale as their feasting ground. TymoraChosen was right that it was a sad and fear filled year, vampires were rampant in the dale. It was said that a company of valiant and heroic adventurers fought the vampires in the dale with staggering cost in terms of their own lives. I heard that a vampire with several of his vampiric servants fled away from Merrydale to attack some other dale for food, heard that one of the vampire servants included a member of the valiant company of vampire slayers. In the aftermath, the remaining living folk in the dale turned distrustful of travelers. |

During the vampiric infestation, it was said that even parents were forced to slay their children who had turned vampires, and the vampire that fled Merrydale with a bunch of vampire servants fled to feast in Mistledale, though I am not sure whether the inhabitants of Mistledale did fight back against the vampires or those vampires had fled to join the Night Masks in Westgate. |

The vampiric infestation of Merrydale is discussed in the Ravenloft novel, Vampire of the Mists.
The townspeople were indeed aided by a group of adventurers, though not all of the Silver Six survived. |

Well,Randal Morn ancestor angered the dwarves and the dwarves had long sworn not to help any human that is of Randal Morn ancestor line. If this had not happened, Randal Morn could had enlisted the dwarves aid and drove the Zhents out of Daggerdale a long time ago. |

It is not known why the Dalelands Council didn't vote to unify and support Daggerdale, but then again, it could be their independant streak that made them stay out. No one interfered when Archendale utterly destroyed SSesrendale. Teshendale was not supported when it was invaded and taken over by Zhentil Keep. So, the historic precedence was to stay out of it. Only when Lashan tried to take over all the Dalelands did they really unify as a military force. |

I think a live demonstration of a true and powerful threat must be shown to all of the Dalelands then will the folk of the Dalelands unite in a temporary alliance or rather temporary fragile alliance. |

I think some information was provided in the module 'Doom of Daggerdale', which also features Colderan, Randal's ancestor and former lord of the dale. |

Gwath the lich? Well, i would say she is a very big and wanted villain. Heard that she was involved in the opening of the gate for the Army of Darkness to descend on Myth Drannor but she fled the elves wrath. Also, it was said that she might be responsible for the vampiric infestation in Merrydale as there were rumors that she invited 15 vampire lords to do some terror work in the dales until a mob of religious zealots managed to kill most of the vampire lords if I am not wrong.

Gwath was a drow and some call her the spokeswoman for lolth, a priestess she was as well. First encountered by a mage and his band from Cormyr at a tower in the Spiderhaunt woods which was previously uninhabited by spiders but believed to be the work of Gwath that caused the woods to be inhabited by spiders. Heard that this mage said that this Gwath was incredibly powerful and wield an array of powerful spells. |

I believe that mage that fought Gwath in the spiderhaunt woods was called Garthur but he never truimphed over Gwath that time as she was too powerful. He just teleported himself and those remaining to him away to safety. |

I don't think Gwath was a full blooded drow, a half drow instead, heard that she once resided in the half drow nation of Dambrath but she vanished inexplicably from the South in the early 7th Century DR, at roughly the same time Garthur recorded first mention of the Gwath of the North. Still, I think she should be pinned up in Kelemvor's wall of the faithless for her misdeeds. |

Anyway, I have some questions about this Gwath, 1) If she helped open the portal for the Army of Darkness to pass, surely the Myth Drannor elves would had known that, did they take revenge?
2) What was her plans for the Dalelands at that time?
3) Why did she want to vampires in the Dalelands for what purpose? |

To the first question, they did take revenge by assaulting her tower in the spiderhaunt woods till she was forced to flee to another safe place.
To the third question, she did not like the growing presence of humans in the western dalelands. Hence, she summoned 15 vampire lords to infect Merrydale with vampirism, hence sealed the name of daggerdale to that dale since. Once a group of overzealous vampires seized the village of HighStone in Dagger Hills, turned the whole population into vampires. It was until the elves from the Elven Court in a brazen day time raid slew all the vampire mob in the village of HighStone which later renamed BloodStone after the raid.
Those vampire lords were slain by a combined force of Cormyr and the Dalelands military led by Lathander priests who executed every vampire lord with no mercy. |

Gwath did not let the slain vampires and vampire lords rest in peace either, she damned them to be ghosts for all time, haunting the same place where they died. Those vampire lords were summoned from another plane actually. |

I recall that the name Daggerdale is a translation of the original dwarven name, cannot remember where I read that though. |

The Shame over the Destruction of Teshendale A summary from what is written in A Grand Tour of the Realms.
Situated along the valley of the River Tesh, the region that was Teshendale is now piles of ruins overgrown by brambles and shrubs. Teshendale was overrun by the orcs in the mountains and the forces of Zhentil Keep in the Year of the Gulagar (1316 DR). Its people were slain, driven off, or enslaved. During the destruction of Teshendale, both Daggerdale and Shadowdale were under pressure from Zhentil Keep agents, and could not have aided even if they wanted to. However, the shame of their lack of action remains on both communities. |

So it seems the lich, Gwath was responsible for the vampiric infestation in Daggerdale. It seems that Gwath is almost Lolth incarnate. |
