I'm planning a new campaign using the Age of Worms campaign path from Dungeon magazine #124, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on some minor conversions and whatnot.
I'd rather not use the Rod of Seven Parts in the campaign. Could I substitute the Winds Dukes for perhaps ancient Netherese heroes? Any ideas concerning that?
Also, being that this campaign is called the Age of Worms, might that imply eventually battling worms like the purple worm and the frost worm? Would it be wise to take magical beast as a ranger's favored enemy?
I'm thinking of making Diamond Lake a small town about 6 miles east of Waterdeep. The Free City in the campaign will be replaced with Waterdeep. I wish there was a bit more information in issue #124. I think I'll have to wait for a few more issues before I can really commit to anything.
*UPDATE*
I just found a web supplement on paizo.com by Eric Boyd that is just awesome.

Narnra glowered at her father. "Just how am I to learn how to think? By being taught by you?"
"Some folk in the Realms would give their lives for the chance to learn at my feet," Elminster said mildly. "Several already have."

I have found it wise to wait until they are all out before starting the campaign. I can tailor things to fit better that way.
The "Age of Worms" is more directed at a Greyhawk reference. Kysuss (sp?) is the evil god behind this plot. A Greyhawk monster is called the Sons of Kysuss, which has these little nasty worms that can kill you on them. Since Kysuss is about decay and all that, then it is more a reference to the rotting of everything. Then again, it could have purple worms and/or dragons at the end. |

I did a bit more on the conversion for the Whispering Cairn conversion, which will hopefully be posted in an updated version of the PDF soon.
My take is that the Rod of Seven Parts should be renamed as the "Shattered Scepter of Calim" (or something like that) and that Wind Dukes were the djinni of the Calim Empire. More on this in the update.
All that said, the Rod of Seven Parts is NOT a big part of this campaign.

Thanks, Eric. That helps a lot. Connecting the Wind Dukes to the elemental tone of Calimport seems like a perfect fit. Thanks.

Hi Eric,
I read the Adventure Backdrop yesterday as well as your conversion notes for the FR. Thanks a lot for your work on that! That is really helpful.
I am a bit reluctant with toppling the current leader of Daggerford and bring in so many change to the city (not to mention the name juggling), so I was looking at an alternative. I would appreciate your comments and see if you think that it would be practical.
I was simply thinking of having Diamond Lake be exactly as it is (no name change for locales or people), but situate it a bit higher on the Delimbyir, maybe at a distance of a one day trip from Daggerford. The mining would still take place in this hills you mention in the Dungeon online supplement.
Free City would still be Waterdeep and I would stick to your conversion notes for the other places of the AP as well. It would just leave the real Daggerford kind of "in the way", between Diamond Lake and Waterdeep.
Do you think it could work? (considering the next instalments of the AP) My goal is really just to avoid changing so many things in Daggerford and juggling with all the names.
I hope you'll find some time to comment on this.
In advance thanks a lot.

I personally loved the name juggling just becuase it shows that Realms names and Greyhawk names do have a different feel, though for anyone that isn't an established character in Daggerford, I doubt that it would make much difference.
You could always have everyone THINK that the ruler of Daggerdale was killed, and later on, perhaps later in the AP or after it is over, you find out that he took refuge with one of the Lords of Waterdeep until the mystery blew over. That was the idea that I had about the whole thing.
As far as the businesses such as the Emporium, its easy enough to have them meet a bad fate or simply move on when the AP is over, perhaps givning the PCs a place to develop of their own. Unless of course you want to keep it.
Heck, the triad and the Cult of the Ascended Lovers might make it into my non-AOW campaign, depending on how they flesh out. |
