Well met
Since mid-afternoon on 15th June, we have been experiencing periodical problems with the Candlekeep Forum, where the following message is issued:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Cannot open database ''. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
/forum/inc_header.asp, line 134
This is temperamental and functionality returns a number of minutes after. We apologise for the inconvenience and are attempting a database rebuild in the near future to hopefully rectify this issue.
Thank ye.

Thanks for the update Alaundo .
Although, I noticed last night when this occured (for Australians) that Candlekeep was not the only site affected by this database corruption.

Well met
Hmmmm, i'd be interested to hear more on this matter, Sage, if ye could perhaps contact me with more details.
Previous problems, if ye recall a couple of months back, were down to Microsoft Security Patches which had been installed on various web servers and later to be found to cause a problem to a point of being backed out. I'm wondering if mayhaps something has changed recently with the Jet DB engine or some such, if this is indeed occuring elsewhere.
Thank ye. |

I suffer with the problem yesterday, too. But now, everything is right. Some prayers for Oghma and Deneir put the tomes in order again...

I suffered this problem for the whole day long yesterday. I am glad that the forum is restored to working order. |

Could it have something to do with the gnomes you hired to compile the scrolls? You KNOW how they get...
.. no, wait, if it was the gnomes you would have gotten a 5-page thesis on the problem not merely an error message. |

Big Al, as we discussed in private, I should have some further information on what I was talking about earlier today. I've contacted a few of my sources through work and one has provided me with some rather intriguing details. I'll try to make it available for you tomorrow, or at the very latest, sometime over the weekend .

Well it is being caused by the faultiness in the ASP database. Use MySQL and php! Much better and easier than asp. For forum i would use phpBB or XMB. |

That's not always the case though. And for phpBB, we can often have just as much server or database trouble.
The true fact here is that no database is ever totally secure or free from the occasional "mephit in the works" especially on the net. There are other safeguards however, and while not always 100%, they can work to minimise the amount of time a forum or another large informational database is brought down because of a failure. These safeguards are what I'm currently trying to track down for Alaundo so that he can use them here at Candlekeep.

Apologies, VEDSICA. The issue did indeed occur briefly today mid-afternoon GMT. However, as far as i'm aware, this one moment is the only time today. |

I've had to log in to my account twice in the last 24 hours... Normally, I go weeks between log-ins. Is this bit of weirdness on my end, or is it related to the issues this scroll is about? |

I've also had no problems with Candlekeep over the last 48 hours. However, I noticed that one of the sites affected by the first database failure has still not been reactivated.

I'll have that module by tomorrow Big Al.
It won't take much to integrate it into the forum database system itself, so you won't need to worry about too much tinkering around, although the designers recommend that you temporarily take the forums offline when you install it.
There'll be instructions with the module, so you shouldn't have too much difficultly. If you have any problems, I'll be happy to assist in the installation process. I'll tell you more when I actually send you the program .

As it happens, I'm actually thinking about using this new program myself, since I have a large database of work-related projects on the web.

It's the fire and steam mephits you have to watch out for... The potential damage they can both cause to the numerous scrolls and tomes contained within these halls is enough to warrant the occasional "mephit hunt".
Fortunately all types of mephits seem to be afraid of Furry Hamsters .
