Ok, another question about the Shadovar

I know that they worship Shar for her Shadow Magic, but is that the only reason that they follow her? She does want, basically, the destruction of everything. But it seems that they want to rule everything, not to destroy everything. And it would be a bit hard to rule something if both you and it no longer existed.

Thanks,

Nynshari

Nynshari, the Shadovar worshipped Shar because she was the deity that answered their calls of aid when the Shade Enclave went into the Plane of Shadows and was attacked by the monsters living there.

Shade was already very heavily into following Shar before Karse messed things up.

Yes, but at that time other deities were worshipped by the city. It was only after the city went to the Plane of Shadows did Shar become the only god worshipped by its citizens.

yep, for before Shades movement into the Shadow plane the hugest divine order in the city was the church of Tyche. I don't know what the faith of Shadow was, but I doubt he had one in Netheril times.

Shar is also the deity of the hopeless and those who seek vengeance so I think the Shadovar would have worshipped that part of her portfolio and not that self-destructive one

Hmm...it is true that the Netherese worshipped an array of dieties including Mystryl (now Mystra) and Tempus (or was it Tyr?) including Shar. I think Shar had a hand in the events that led to Shade Enclave transported to the Plane of Shadow. It is unlikely the Shadovar citizens in the Shade Enclave overnight started to worship Shar, I think Shar had done some "great boons" to the Shadovar citizens that they turned to worship her instead of the other deities.

The Shade enclave originally worshiped Tyche but that's another thing WOTC really hasn't touched on. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

So it appears that Shade Enclave is heavily reliant on luck to achieve their objectives before their exile to the plane of shadow.

The Netherese worshipped a small number of deities, namely Mystryl, Jannath(the former Chauntea), Selune, Shar, Kozah (Talos), Tyche, Jergal, Amaunator, Moander and Targus(Garagos) who was smitten by the beauty of Shar and Selune... errrm...

We don't know whether or not Shar had hands in the final shift of Shade into the Shadow Plane. Realms of Shadow says at least that the twelve princes were holding the city in the sky during the Fall - while RotA says they were not even born in that time. But if the princes were born before the Fall it is most likely that most of them, like their father, had no faith at all (maybe Rivalen thought different) and if Shar then had her hands in the saving of Shade it was her own plan(so no biddings from the Tanthul family)

Amd I think that the convertion tho the Sharran faith was a slow process that happened during the long long time in the Plane of Shadow. I can imagine easily how you lose your hope and your happiness if you spent your whole life in a place full of shadows, twilight and fiends (thats where the Krinth come from )
It wouldn't be very Shar-like to say "hello, I just saved your city, now you *should* worship me"

It is all just a past and future secret
