Well I decided that the next of my many out of print purchases to read is this book. I like all the various city specific details in chapter 4. This is a pretty good book in this regard so far. I also like how it's in the transition between 1E and 2E and Leira is sort of still there, but her death at the hands of Cyric isn't official yet, but her being dead is speculated at. Hehe. Well, back to reading pages 76-77 which is on Baldur's Gate.
P.S. What's happening with Jeff Grubb??

I honestly don't know what Jeff Grubb is doing now... But I'd love to see him return to the Realms. |

Iīm echoing you, furry friend!
And the Forgotten Realms Adventures is a great book, really! Itīs a pity that it donīt came to Brazil.
Yuri "Chosen of Moradin" Peixoto, really dreaming with a day when he will put his trembling hands in a new FR Lorebook penned by Sir Ed of Greenwood, Sir Steven "SpinningMind" Schend, and Sir Jeff "put-all-that-mess-in-order" Grubb... |

Forgotten Realms Adventures was the second FR supplement I ever bought... I got it in 1990, I think. I'd read a couple of the novels by that point, and FR9 The Bloodstone Lands, so when I saw the FRA I decided to get it so I could learn more of the Realms. That book went a long way towards solidifying my interest in the Realms.
Also, early in the book there's mention of a code of chivalry. I actually used that in a research paper and group project for my Humanities class. |

Jeff Grubb is definitely a writer/designer who I'd like to see return to the Realms. And maybe, to work on a project with Ed...
Of course, I'm just as happy hearing that he may be working on an upcoming trilogy for Dragonlance .

Oh, and another point about the FRA:
I keep most of my D&D stuff in one dedicated bookcase. However, I was running out of room with all the 1st and 2nd edition hardcovers sharing shelfspace with the 3E ones. So all those older tomes were moved to another bookcase... With one exception: the FRA. Even some 15 years after I got it, I still reference it oft enough to keep it handy. |

It's the same with me. I'll often find some reason to refer to it at least once a day.

FR Adventures have the same glue-like efect of the power-trio godbooks (Faiths and Avatars, Powers and Pantheons - here with me right in the office now, and Demihuman Deities... stay without one of them, and the wrath of the gods will fall hard upon you... |

It's actually a quartet for me -- Monster Mythology is just as indispensible as the other three FR god books.

FRA is a great book. I still refer back this this regularly for the Cities section.
I still long to see a dedicated Cities of the Realms sourcebook one day. It's good to see Ed's upcoming Cities column in Dragon magazine starting next month |

Ditto that! I just hope they don't shelve the column after only a few issues, like they've done with some of his other stuff. |

I just noticed some rumours about a similarly styled Eberron column possibility starting in Dragon a few issues after Ed's new Realmslore. It is to coincide with the release of Five Nations.
I wonder whether Dragon can have both articles running alongside each other in the same issue, or will the EB column eventually take precedence...

I trust in Erik's attention to wanting to make his fans happy. In his editorial this month he talked about how in their quest to make everyone happy with generic material they skimmed over FR and FR is part of the history of Dragon, since for a long time, outside of Ed house, that is the only place it existed for the masses.
If worse comes to worse in the scheduling departments, I would hope that they may alternate between the setting specific articles. Realmslore every other month is better than no Realmslore at all, which is what we have gotten for a while in there.
And now, my disclaimer of the last few months: Lack of FR or not, I have been pretty happy with how Erik has improved Dungeon and Dragon Magazine. |

Fellow scribes, Ed has so many major projects on his platter right now that I very much doubt his Cities series is going to be anything like monthly. Quarterly, perhaps . . . love, THO |

Thanks for the information THO .
Do you know whether the 'Cities' articles are to have a fixed word court or perhaps a fixed number of pages? Or will each article differ in the amount of content covering each locale?

Talking about FR Adventures (and the good way that old tomes was developed, as Players Guide to Forgotten Realms and some others), I start to think in an utopic world in that all of us (Realms fans) gain the bless of the publication oa an yearly "Faerunian Journal", full of news about the cities, gossips, changes in the mercenarie companies, merchant guilds, regency of the cities, update of the timeline, misinformation (as the good last Realmslore column of great Ed), and all that stuff that all of us apreciated too much...
Yes, I know that this is only a dream (a good, desirable dream), but this idea really catch my mind, and I start to think what will be necessary (market changes? Pression of the fans? Talk with the right person in the right time?) to see this as a reality.
FR Adventures have an awesome work, full of too much info, and we have a great number of old tomes that give to us stuff to long months of diversion, but I really think that an update will be very well acepted...
Well, I think that is time to stop of dream, and wake... |

I mix of the old "current clack" chapters and the PGtF "campaing journal" would be nice. |

I'm still aiming to have a 'Current Clack' section added to the Compendium, covering the year 1374 DR, at some point in the future. It is just a matter of sitting down and putting structure and dates to the various notes I've collected together from the sourcebooks and novels that were a part of that year in the Realms campaign.

Hehe... Our reverence for the 'Current Clack' sections of FR tomes originally led to the creation of the Newsletter/Compendium idea here at Candlekeep.
That's why I want to desparately include an update, because that was part of what I originally envisioned the Candlekeep Compendium would be for -- along with what it is now.

That would be fantastic. I realize that an Current Clack appendix in the back of, for instance, Champions of Ruin would not sit well with lots of casual FR buyers, but I would love that.
My dream product would be a annual "Year of... " sourcebook with campaign updates, NPCs, story hooks and tie-in adventures |

Add Jeff Grubb to that list.
Letīs put one more deserving name in that list: Ed Bonny! The man came to the Realms silently as a drow, and make a truly amazing work in the Lost Empires. If he put his feverish mind to work with the Loremasters mentioned, this tome will become even more apealing... |
