I don't like those forums period. I'd rather be kickin it over here with R.A. Salvatore and Ed. And a few other people. Nah but this is my new home.

Tip of the Month: don't drink the dirty water. You know what i'm talking about if you know what i mean.

I do hate to defend those other forums, but there are a few good people over there... I grew to respect Kuje over there, and then checked out this place when he started quoting Ed...

There's a couple of other people from there that I'd like to see over here.

Truly, I think that the biggest problem with the WotC forums is the very fact that it's the official forum for D&D -- thus, it attracts all kinds of posters: newbies looking for info, munchkins looking for ways to destroy settings, and lovers of lore like many of us here.

I've certainly complained about the moderation over there, but it must be admitted that a site with tens of thousands of posters posting thousands of comments a day would be hard to police. That doesn't excuse some of the actions of the mods, but we really should keep a sense of perspective.

People go there because it's the official forum. It's bound to attract idiots and munchkins. So long as those who actually care about the setting manage to escape to here, I'm kind of happy that the WotC forums exist: they protect us from the annoying posters!

Yes, well said oh wooly one

sometimes I still hop to the nameless boards and sometimes you can really find some nice discussions there, or just gasp about the knowledge of D&D Veterans like Kuje, the Simbul or Shemmy

but they are good for some other two reasons: first they attract new Realmslore-lovers to candlekeep (me too - thanks Kuje )
and second , if you think your fellow players are evil munchkins and you're really upset... you can read a bit through that "optimization" things and be happy that your buddies won't ever use 6 classes in one nonepic-character ^^

It is all just a past and future secret

Happy to be of some help bringing others over to these boards. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Never been to the optimization boards myself, but I have created PCs and NPCs with 4 or more classes but they all do have background/story reason for doing so.
Often happens when you try to rebuild an old 1st or 2nd Edition multi-classed character with the new rules while trying to keep as much of the "flavor/power" of the original.
I have had to even change the spell lists of some of the "hybrids" to allow +1 caster level every two levels so the character could still be within a "reasonable" level limit.

I found the gestalt rules from Unearthed Arcana to be a very good approximation of the original multiclassed character - so much so, that I pulled one of my main objections to 3.xE (I'm still waiting on S&P's resurgence )

Though the Nameless forum is a place to let off some steam about those who refuse to acknowledge anything before WOTC took over and the creation of 3.xE
