Hello all!

I'm consídering to play in our PnP a dwarf originating from the Ironstar clan. I'd like to know, from what part of Faerun the dwarves belonging into this clan come from?

I've tried to search through the net and find information about Ironstars but have not been able to find much :(

The single Ironstar clan of shield dwarves founded their kingdom in the North, in -2919 DR. As I recall, the clan later abandoned their holdings in 207 DR, fleeing south (and east) where they gathered beneath the Horn Hills with the dwarves of Dardath.

Thornhammer Hold, on the present-day site of Grunwald, was believed to have been settled by a group from the fleeing Ironstar dwarves.

Savage Frontier and the The North boxed set contain most of the details on this clan.

I'd include Dwarves Deep as a source for the Ironstars and Volo's Guide to All Things Magical for a description of the alloy that made them famous.

Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be...
Sigh... And now 4e as well.

Their realm fell in 207 DR, not -207 DR.

See "Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark" - Environs of Blingdenstone for a look at the location of their realm (and obliquely, their relationship with Mithral Hall) and note that Delg from the "Spellfire" novels was an Ironstar dwarf. Also, they are rumored to still exist, living in such far-flung places as the island of Mintarn.

Thanks Krash . I'd actually meant 207 DR. I don't know how the "minus" symbol appeared before it. Must be those crazy mephits again... .

Inspired by a Far Side comic (the "car key gnomes" one), I now blame computer weirdness on e-gnomes. I also blame gremlins, the traditional culprit for technological weirdness. Unfortunately, when I close a help desk ticket, I have to put something else in the Resolution field.

Hehe... We like to call them e-gremlins at work. Especially when one of the main servers goes offline for no apparent reason .

*Spoiler* (at least for those who haven't read the Spellfire novels)

I believe an Ironstar dwarf plays a significant role in the Spellfire novels. I don't recall however whether or not the book states that he is the last of the Ironstar's or whether there are more around. Sorry for the spoiler alert for most of you but I've got a feeling not everyone's read those books.

That's Delg. Krash mentioned him, and the reference in Spellfire, earlier .

It's ok. At least you didn't spend five blearly minutes trying to work all the permutations of how you missed that rather large event of a portal to Oerth opening somewhere in the middle of a not-very-good novel (see the Blade Kingdoms thread). It happens to all of us.

Isn't the Ironstar Clan also rumored to be somewhere deep under Evereska?

Yep, they are supposed to have ties with the Evereskan elves. Eric and I made the link between the Ironstars and the dwarves of Dardath (which was the dwarven component of Phalorm, the "Fallen Kingdom"). After Phalorm's fall (614 DR), the dwarves of Dardath went underground or headed east to Ammarindar. I'm guessing that some Ironstar dwarves headed east to that realm also and then when it fell (882 DR), took refuge with the elves of Evereska. Note that Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast notes that the monarchs of the Fallen Kingdom were buried in the Tomb Hills (now considered part of Evereska), so it's likely that there were strong ties between Ardeep and Evereska (dynastic marriage?) which translated to ties between Phalorm and Evereska, which translated to Ironstar dwarves being welcome there. All of this is guesswork on my part but it fits reasonably well.

Great Reader Hoondatha,

hahahaha....I literally just read that scroll on the Blade Kingdoms. Even better...reading all this (15) years later. I still find these older scrolls better than the newer ones though!

Best regards,
