| I enjoy playing Druids the most, many of my favorite characters were druids. Next would probably be Fighters/Rangers, then rogues. |

| I know that everyone wants to be a caster of some sort but you all know that a wizard will always need a good fighter to back them up while there casting. Because you may be the most powerful spell caster in the world but that doesnt meen your to good for a dagger in your back or a goblin arrow sprouting from your chest. |

Yeah, but it all balances out... The best fighter in the world can't do much if a wizard is happily teleporting around, blasting him with lightning bolts, and then showing up 500 yards away in the opposite direction.
And both would be lost if they blunder into a deadly trap that a good thief would have found, or if they get seriously wounded and don't have a cleric to heal them.
So it all balances. |

| Bard. All around good support for any party. And a bard is not necessarily at a loss in combat. A bard makes a lousy meat-shield, but good back-up. A little stealth, a little steel, a little magic - bards do it all. And look good, doing it! |

The hardest thing about picking the best class is the fact that all classes need each other to really be good. A fighter is only good against the physical threats, mage v. mage, etc. That's why I think the party system is unique.

Ah, but see... if you don't have a party with you, you need to be able to do a little of everything. That and I am terribly indecisive. So as an all-around generalist, bard works really well for me.
I do agree that a diverse party can take on a lot more than one bard alone, however. Certainly. |

I agree with the statement that it all balances out. However, I feel that the class that is the easiest to due without is the Rogue, assuming you have everything else.
Fighters are very important for dealing big damage and fighting things with a high spell resistance.
Clerics and Wizards are absolutely a must (Sorc and Druid count as the same for this argument).
A rogue is useful, don't get me wrong. But I think a lot of the Rogues abilities can be duplicated by a creative caster or couple of casters.
Need to sneak up on someone....Silence spell. Need to open a lock....Knock Spell. Need to do some scouting/detective work....Divination spells. Need to get through a trapped door....Fighter opens, cleric heals him. Or dispel magic if the door is magically trapped.
And again, I'm not short changing the rogue, it's a great class. But if you have to go without one of the 4 major builds, the rogue is the easiest to deal without in my opinion. |

| Generally, I would prefer a balance of melee and magic in my PC, so as to handle most situations with some moderate ease. I would say that I enjoy the wizard class most, for sometimes, big baddies needs magic to be dealt with. A melee class, to me would be a must, for most PCs are often pressed into melee fights in my experience and it often pays to have a PC that is a fighter. |

| I picked cleric, but it's really hard to choose. The only class I'm really indifferent towards is monks. I like rogues, but I always mix them with something else. |

I'm just "eh" about them. No great like or dislike, just neutrality. I haven't felt a great desire to make a monk yet. That, and they sometimes come across as too "oriental" for my tastes (for Faerun anyway), even though they are supposed to fit any setting. |

For the Realms, I go for ranger followed by mage.
The monk class is just a bad fit in standard (Western) D&D and the Realms: it was originally inspired by the David Carradine character in Kung Fu, and Gygax later wished he'd not included it in the core AD&D books (along with the psionics and weapons vs armour rules, among others). Fighting monks in the Realms were few indeed until the 3E authors forced them in. Poor Shaunil Tharm. |

| We could do this same thread with the Prestige classes too, but I think There are more than the ones shown in Neverwinter Nights... |

There are already a number of scrolls dealing with this topic. If you're interested, perhaps you should search through the archives and take a look... .

Our First choice is a Bard since they kinda go wherever, not really skilled at anything in particular but meander around collecting bit here and pieces there. A second would actually have to be a Monk, but built and Played in such a fashion to be 'westernized' (I believe this topic has been discussed previously, a year or more ago ) IF, we could choose a new second Monk would fall to third and Archivist would take the Lead from Heroes of Horror (it may even topple a Bard). Knowledge, afterall, Is Power. |

| Usually first Wizard then followed by a fighter or rogue class, hard to say which is my favorite class, currently still prefer wizard but every class had its usefulness in particular situations which requires the skills of a particular class. |

| It's not a core class, but I recently become enamored with the Soulknife class. I love the fact that you can walk into any situation, look completely unarmed and innocent, and then unleash all kinds of hell. Very fun. I had a fighter back in 2e who did the same thing, he had a sword -1 cursed that he would leave outside of town, content in the knowledge that whenever a fight started it would appear in his hand. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

| For me it has always been Wizard before any other class. I guess I have always just been drawn to the idea of disintegrating my enemies and those sort of things. Calling down balls of fire, shooting bolts of lightning, illusions, polymorphs, teleportation, divinations...the fun just does not end. And if all else fails I can whip out the old Tenser's Transformation and just blugeon some stuff. Ahhh...the options, so many options. |

| All classes are equally good, but I always end up playing a rogue/thief. |
"I plan to live forever" ~ Captain Waldo Binkle ~The Nameless Ring; 11/03 "For Binkle!!!"(Hale's first words since his accident)~ Hale, son of Breerun ~ The Nameless Ring; 11/03
"Was that supposed to happen?" the fighter asked. "Well, yes and no," came the mage's reply. ~Conversation during the Time of Troubles.
"A fiendish gnoll stands with an arrow cocked across a 60' x 45' room. He smiles wickedly was he takes aim. What do you do?" the DM smiles, waiting for a reply. "I charge the foul creature!" says the paladin. "Roll 5 reflex save, then 2 fort saves," the DM chuckled. ~actual gameplay. |

Having played several over time, it is hard to say really. I voted for Wizard, however, that is my current build and that's what is always the best. -been Paladin -been Ranger -been Warlock -been ------ I am very partial to my Wizard right now.

You know you should add the psion to the poll there. Just a Thought! |
"Develop the latent abilities within you for that is your power alone. Psionics is the ultimate art of magic and you are its practitioner. Through lifelong dedication, strive to unite your will with your physical form to become one. Only through the unrestrained union of one’s mind and body can the magic of psionics truly be mastered. Throw off the yoke of any who would impose tyranny upon you. Likewise, do not ever force another to submit to your will. Free your mind, free yourself and you have only just begun the path to true psionic mastery. Free others, open their minds to the Invisible Art, and you will show them way to Auppenser." ---Dogma of the Church of Auppenser |

| A rather difficult question, actually, as I like most classes for a variety of reasons. I picked Druid, since that was my first character and I've always had a thing for nature magic and shapeshifting. Druid's aren't great in any specific role, and often are at a disadvantage in a dungeon, but they have my preference. That said, I love a good Fighter/Rogue or capable wizard. |

| I picked the Monk! That is such a cool character type where you have improvement every single level. But playing a decent cleric, ranger or rogue aka thief is surely lots of fun too. |

I usually wont connect with ranger or druid as my pc. Always seems to die much too quickly. To Choose one however its quite hard. And My choice was narrowed to fighter sorcerer or paladin. Since I like my Unfirendly foes well done The Sorcerer takes this match. Nothing like the smell of sulfur and scorched Kobold on a cold spring morning. |

| My favorite is rogue with cleric second. A lot of class can be realy interresting to play if the character has a goog background and a defined personality, not just the stats... |
