I'm waiting for them to move to the FR and give us a Drizzt versus Elminster match. Although we all know Drizzt would wipe the floor with the wizard. So, why even waste the time? |

Well....this new feature does show the audience level the WOTC site seems to be targeting. And it would appear to be the audience that likes such threads. |

If I could add one more bracket to the tournament it would be this:
anything from the character optimization board VS sane DM |
This is the highest my post count has ever been. |

But at least it's just a popularity contest, not a who's could kill who type one. |

Seems a little...reaching, doesn't it? It's like the website is desperate for attention. Voting for a monster to appear in an online adventure?
An adventure that will take 15 weeks of voting before we find out who it features? 4 months for an WoTC webadventure, which are often only a page long anyway?
I mean, it's nice to get people involved, but just make 16 adventures.
EDIT: I know you voted. I voted for the cube. Also, the blinded beholder has a zombie parrot. I'm not sure if that's neat or not yet. |

OMG... one of those people obsessed with "X vs. Y" battle topics must have infiltrated WotC. You know, we work so hard to keep those off this forum and then WotC goes and encourage people with this "contest". (sigh) |

Actually, it's such a silly poll that I can't help liking it.
And I voted for the cube too - it'a a carnivorous giant jello, you gotta love it |

This is a silly pool, and that's kind of why I like it too.Even though I have absolutly no idea what three-fourths of the creatures are.A Succubus Paladin???Since when???
I voted for the Tarrasque because I really hated the Cubes when I gamed, and I prefer not to eat jello(had a broken once).Or be eaten by one for that fact..... |

I bet the feature is market research in disguise. They want to identify what the fans like and dislike.
I voted for the Cube, because I like the classic D&D critters, and I want the clever research suits at Wotc to know that. The Tarrasque is IMO a mutated boring T-Rex I could't care less about. |

Vote the cube, is about only thing that can kill it on the list on a head to head conflict. The SR will most likely even prevent the lich from wining in a face off.
Personaly over all I am hoping the Succubus Paladin will be overall winner ;-) A LG demon certainly a rare thing to see.
Edit: Why I think the cube should win.
The tarrasque is not resitant to acid and after swollowing the cube the cube will continue to live and spun off spring that in time will inflick enough damage to over come the 40 regeneration. The cubes per rules would perhaps be eating forever however the tarrasque would be out of action. |

Prediction:
The final round will see Xxerlflyyn the beholder (fresh off his victory over the tarrasque) taking on the illithid Shuluth (who's just dined on yummy unicorn brains). |

My Demon Paladin should be able to beat your mere Mind Flayer, however it is a vote and not dice/tactic that will determine the results.
It will be interesting to see what the results finaly are in the next few months. Heck the cube might win it all in the end ;-) |

Since a very short reference to a NPC in a 2e Ravenloft tome. There's very little background on her, but it does mention that she is indeed a very RARE occurence.

If good can be corrupted, why can't evil be redeemed? Just shows to go you that paladin hood doesn't always mean chastity -or else it emphasizes the point for those of us who already knew that.
I voted for the cube, simply because I don't like the tarrasque.

Was thinking this as well but didn't want to say anything. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

On first glance, I wanted to vote for the cube. I thought for sure the tarrasque would get all the votes because it seems no messageboard can survive without the creature being mentioned once a year at least. I'm surprised the cube has so many backers. I think if it can pick up another swing state or two the cube might be able to pull this upset off. |

Evil creatures can be redeemed just as good creatures can fall toward evil.
Using a rules interpretation, there was a template presented in a third-party sourcebook - namely the Avatar's Handbook - which presented what is called a "reforged" creature template. Basically, this template allows evil-aligned creatures the chance to serve celestial beings on some grand mission that will prove their true committment to doing good. Of course, these evil creatures would have already had to display some significant move toward changing their ways. If you're interested in further details, I'll dig up the book when I get home.
From a story-telling perspective though, and playing upon the growing mania surrounding a certain film that is about to be released, one need only look to the grand Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader himself. While representing one of the most villainous characters in the entire history of cinema, the "moral being" that is Darth Vader also displays a character who carries deep within himself the "last chance" for redemption. We see this later, when he finally seizes this last chance... turning his back on evil and standing against his master in an attempt to save his son.

The Book of Exalted Deeds has the Sactify the Wicked spell that turns an evil creature's alignment to that of the casters (which must be some form of good).
Costs a level though. |

Yes, but the effect is not permanent, as I recall.
The 'reforged' template represents a complete and total alternation to a good-alignment.
No. it is permanent.
The sanctify the wicked spell leads to the sanctified creature template, which is permanent and total. |

If I remember correctly, there was a spell in Elves of Evermeet that also turned evil creatures to good. |

Soul Freedom (High Magic)
It takes 10 years to become permanent.
As written it would appear that it often does not work often.
-6 to saving throw when spell cast tends to change alignment, however once a month (for 1st year) must make a saving throw with the same -6 or revert back to original alinment, thereafter once a year until 10 are reached.
Pehaps it was meant to be written as +6 to maintain Good alignment?
Or must make saving throw at -6 to have alignment revert? |

This week's matchup. Pity about the cube, I was hoping it would pull off the upset. |
