The most recent one I read is 'the Ravens' which is set in Raven's Bluff. While the location of the novel is the city and it does convey some of the feeling of what Raven's Bluff should be like, I prefer the style in which Volo's Guides were written for that. The series, to me are more another set of adventures set within a Realms location although there is Realmslore within.

I believe you are correct oh Wooly one. Have you read the other books in the Cities series? I've been putting them off, just wondering how they compare to other Realms novels.

Well met

Take a look around in the Novels section of the forum, for there are discussions on this very series. It appears as though they are very well liked novels by many scribes... myself included.

Could be, or maybe the City of Splendors has lost some of its lustre of late. Eric let slip on the FRDMING List that the Shadow Thieves have returned to Waterdeep - that sounds like civic strife in the making to me ...

That is interesting...

I wonder what effects it will now have on the city itself. I wonder how the Lords will respond...

Oh, I was just reading their write up in Lords of Darkness and thinking, "Whenever they get back to Waterdeep, things are going to get interesante."

Oh Elaith Craulnober should love this development.

My desire for both Waterdeep books has only increased further.

Life is either daring adventure or nothing.

Indeed we did. It's on pg. 20 .

Hey, to be fair, I couldn't have known that when I wrote it. :)

And I'll claim credit for making sure there weren't two versions of the Initiate of Loviatar feat. ;-)

I'll also forewarn you that the Initiate of Shar feat will also appear in City of Splendors: Waterdeep. Again, another instance of concurrent design.

Eric, any kind of heads-up you can offer on what else we'll see in this book?

Not much, given that I'm a freelancer and not a WoTC employee.

I can say that I tried to design for the DM who own City of Splendors and for the DM who does not. In practice, that means I covered some of the same ground, but I changed the emphasis. You'll find out a lot of info about the religious faiths of Waterdeep and how they interact, which was an area barely touched on by City of Splendors. There's less focus on the noble families, although there's plenty to work with.

I also tried to cover lots of new ground, including the impact of 15 years of the Book Department focusing on the City of Splendors. ;-) In other words, Waterdeep is certainly in need of heroes to defend it from threats within and without.

Sound great. Waterdeep and the North, and the new book, sound like a perfect match. Can't wait

Now that, is particularly interesting. Thanks for sharing Eric. I've always felt that the religious detailing of Waterdeep in the past was less-than-complete.

That is also good to hear. While I would have preferred more data on the various families, I can often support most of the basic material on my own.

I'll agree with that... There's a bunch of temples in the City of Splendors, and the Plinth, and yet we've seen so little of Waterdeep's religious side... I think the only Waterdhavian house of worship that's received any real attention is the House of the Moon, and I think that's only because both Shar and Selūne spent some time there.

Actually, I think the House of the Moon has only been detailed in one source, as I recall. I can't check to be certain at the moment...

It's given in great detail in Powers & Pantheons.

Yup. And the "Phases of the Moon" story arc in the AD&D comic also happened, in part, in and around this temple.

Excerpts, these are. I can't wait, and I mean I'm dying having to have to wait, for it to be available here in Sweden. If the rest of the book are half as good as these ...

This is /exactly/ what I need for my campaign.
