It's good, got it yesterday at Icon. I'm slightly disappointed with how little... I guess variety they go into with the different main races, but the info on the Beholders and Mind Flayers alone is awesome.

Sure, especially those that want Lich Flayers (Alhoon) and Super Illithids (Ultiharids).
But yeah, if you want some culture, structure, etc. information about them it's awesome. |

Haven't picked it up yet, but did take a skim of it, was kinda disappointed. So far the best of this series is the first, Draconomicon. Was kinda expecting more for some reason. Maybe once I actually get it, in about 2 weeks or so (found some consignment stuff that was at too good of a price to pass, especially when the stuff was practically new), and have a chance to read it I might change my tune. |

I'm quite looking forward to this product as i'm a fan of beholders and illithids. Even so, I don't think WotC can ever top the quality of Draconomicon. Whilst I enjoyed Libris Mortis, Draconomicon just held the edge. A great series all round though.
...and why they dropped the Codex Anaethema(sp?) title is beyond me...MUCH better than Lords of Madness.
So hows the interior artwork looking? |

Just a theory....the former title would have been way too confusing for the average consumer to understand and pronounce. |

I see my attempt at humor has failed and I don't want people misunderstand my jokes so here's the revised chapters...
Chapter 2: The Deep Masters 15 (aboleth) Chapter 3: The Eye Tyrants 37 (beholder) Chapter 4: The Mind Flayers 61 (illithid) Chapter 5: The Slave Takers 89 (neogi) Chapter 6: The Eaters 107 (grell) Chapter 7: The Wearers of Flesh 121 (toschar)

That would be the new race, the tsochari.
I was greatly disappointed with what I read regarding the origins of the illithids. The suggestion of time travel was extraordinarily bizarre. I thought at least, that Cordell would stick to some of what we know about the creation of the illithid race as outlined through the 'Prophecies' in The Illithiad.

Since no one answered you and I saw these replies on the WOTC boards:
"They mention Spelljammer ships by name. The Illithids Nautiloids are "described" but without game stats, as the the Neogi ships. Of course, there are 2 pictures of the Neogi ships."
"Nautiloids and Mindspiders are indeed mentioned by name. but the words "Spelljammer" and "spelljamming" are not used, and the assertion is that they are more "flying ships" than "interplanetary ships" though there is an inference that both races have used them to travel from world to world."
"Page 6, Flying ships (sometimes called spelljammers) can reach the moon(s), nearby planets, or possibly even the worlds of other stars altogether."
Now I don't own this book yet but the comic store guy is holding my copy. :) |

If I place D&D products on pre-order with my shipping agent, I can normally secure a 15% discount on the cover price.
But 30% ... That's even better. Does this happen every single time a new product is released?

Yup. :) If cash it's 30% and he can order most d20 and all WOTC material. 15% if it's by credit card. I love my comic guy. :) |

Nice, if my favorite gaming store did that, I would carry cash to buy things there, best I can get is 10% off anything in the store, due to one of my gaming groups are regulars of the game room there. I know Employees get about 30% off most things or even better. |

Greetings !!
I've got three questions for owners (lucky people.., i'm still waiting)of LOM
1. Could you give me a breakdown of the new Ulitharid - no stats and such stuff, just what he can do and how much better he is compared to a regular Illithid. Oh, and CR would be very nice !!
2. Are there any interesting spells/psionic powers (especially of 9 level )
3. Could you tell me something about the Elder Eidolon and Shaboath Golem ?/ (again CR's are welcome, for fun )
Thanks !! |
...Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin... |

And I see my concerns for 'all-things-tentacle-like' have again been proven accurate. I am slowly growing tired of this constant need by WotC to associate everything from the Far Realm with tentacles. The Far Realm is supposed to represent what the mortal mind cannot understand about the reality beyond our comprehension, and yet we still find basic interpretations and forms which are defined and make "sense".
