After lurking for what seems like an age, I couldn't resist breaking cover to ask the following question, has anyone been updating Ed's spells for 3E? I mean, of course aside from the ones that have already turned up in the various official sources. I'm particularly interested in a favourite called 'Bloodstars' from an old Wizards three article, my player has been politely nagging me to update it, any help would be welcome.
Secondly, in Ed's books the title of Sorcerer does turn up pretty regularly, is the 'Ed Greenwood Sorcerer' along pretty much the same lines as the official character class, or is it simply another term for Wizard?
Many thanks

It's another term for wizard. In the Realms, 'wizard' and 'mage' are pretty much interchangeable; 'sorcerer' has a similar meaning but with more sinister connotations.

The Realms has always had rare spontaneous magical wild talents akin to the 3E 'sorcerer', but in as far as the 3E inflection of the Realms is supposed to have any large population of sorcerers, it's a case of the new class being shoehorned into the setting -- a practice against the designers' stated intention of using the rules to better reflect the Realms. The Simbul is most probably not 'really' a 3E-sorcerer, but was made so as a prominent showcase for the new class.

I myself have wondered for a long time if the Simbul we see in Ed Greenwood's stories casts spells the "wizard way"--by writing them into her book and memorizing them. It would make more sense to me than the 3E Simbul who often casts Wish just to change around her selection of high level spells.

Go to New Spells for Old under Running the Realms. I have been going through Ed's 2nd Edition books and converting spells, posting them here.
