Just a quick question about Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate. Was this published as a seperate book? If so how many pages is it? There's a section of the manual for BG which has detailed information about the city and surrounding areas. Is this what people refer to when they talk about Volo's Guide to BG? Or is this merely a sample of a larger book?
Thanks for any information

It's a seperate book not to be confused with Volo's Guide to BG II, which was supposed to be called Volo's Guide to the Lands of Intrigue but it was renamed to tie in with the BG computer games. Steven even gave it an in game explaination change in his Candlekeep Keep collection that is floating around on this site, or should be now. However it was originally written up for WOTC's site. |

Kuje, your post implies that TSR/WotC published Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate and then Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II... However, I know nothing of the first title.. |

Your right, sorry. I should have been thinking of Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast. :) |

Right.
There is no "Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate."
Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast is the book you want.
Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II, covers the lands explored in Baldur's Gate 2 the PC game. |

Excellent. How thick is Volo's Guie to the Sword Coast? Does it contain areas from the game, or other areas? Forgive my ignorance, but I've read only very little on the Realms, and the games are my main source of information at the moment. |

Sword Coast was the main source material for BG the game. It's about twice the size as Volo's BG2. |

Well, then take a look at this place and that will soon be a thing of the past. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads |

Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate does exist, though not in a form you might expect. Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate was included in the game manual for the original Baldur's Gate computer game. |

Ok sure, if you count a few scribbles here and there of flavored text from Elminster and Volo, a complete guide, sure.

A reasonable amount, 15 pages of typical Volo's Guide stuff plus a few more briefly detailing famous NPCs and power organisations of the Realms. I think lots of it is similar to what is in Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast but I don't have that to hand to compare. Either way, it's still a pretty handy resource on Baldur's Gate in this scribe's opinion. |

Hmmm, in that case, I may have to track down the original Baldur's Gate game, then. |

Obviously there has been much said about the BG game series with regards to canon and the like but without wanting to get into that, I highly recommend the original PC series of games, particularly the first one. |

Please. Do NOT get Baldur's Gate because you think the manual is some valuable resource for your D&D campaign. It is not. The favored text is there to help someone that has NEVER played dungeons and dragons, or is too help with the game itself. |
