Well met all! I've been searching the threads to see if anyone has found good sources for out-of-print FR or Core publications from the 1st or 2nd editions. I'm specifically searching for some of the FR sourcebooks and the ever elusive Bloodstone Series H1-4. But any old tomes are good ones. E-bay works ok, and I have found a site called SV games, but even they don't have everything! Treasure hunters everywhere, alert! Any nuggets of wisdom, anyone?

There is also http://www.rpgnow.com/ if you're feeling like downloading digitalized tomes of Realmsian knowledge for a small fee. |

eBay is what I've always gone with... And I've gotten some good deals and rare finds there, too. You just have to keep watching it, every day... |

Can get them from Amazon.com if you're looking for a "reliable" source. Their zShops section has a lot of small shops selling RPG stuff, however, you'll probably find better pricing/offers on ebay. |

An FYI for any scribe who purchases some of the digital tomes, I've encountered some PDFs where the scanning quality was poor. And that's being very kind in my assessment. |

I've noticed. I just purchased two recently, and I'll never make that mistake again. Can I ask which tomes you experienced poor quality with?

Those I have downloaded so far have been of good quality and hence me recommending them. I mainly do it because it saves me the time of doing it myself. |

The original gray box, 1e FR, immediately comes to mind. I purchased that item, about a year ago, and the scanning is the worst I've ever seen in any PDF put up for sale by a company.
What were your two? |

The lady I bought my North boxed set from shipped it in this cheap thin envelope, there was a big hole in it when it arrived. I paid 5 dollars extra for shipping and she spent like 75 cents!! I was so, very, very upset. Needless to say I redmarked her for overcharing and sending damaged goods. An otherwise flawless set, books are in mint and the map is perfect. She had 13 or so red marks after me. I was emailed by three or four people about her. What a disaster!
This seller is long gone now, I think she was either chased out of eBay for went belly up (no surprise) probably due to crappy customer service. |

Ick. At least you helped ensure some other buyers, I hope, did not purchase items from her. |

I have made a lot of purchases in the past from The Hitpointe. Very good service and they had quite a collection. Maybe not always the cheapest out there, but it sure helped me get my FR collection expand to contain most 2e products. |

I'm sure we've all had bad eBay experiences... I was once charged almost full price for a burned CD, and the guy charged me $5 S&H for just sticking the CD in an envelope -- because he had to walk a couple miles to the post office. I got him back, though -- I reported him to eBay for selling pirated software, and then reported him to the company whose software he was pirating. I even went so far as to warn people who bid on his other auctions...
And the first time I won an auction for the Waterdeep Trail Map, the seller -- who previously had a perfect feedback score -- took the money and ran.
Most recently, I got a "nearly mint" copy of Cities of Mystery. "Nearly mint" in this case means just the book, nothing else, and the book was a bit beat up...
All in all, though, I've had hundreds of good transactions... So I still recommend trying eBay. The hits usually far outweigh the misses. |

Many Thanks Lords and Ladies! I'll post any comments, or quality issues I find, as they arise, in this thread. I have indeed checked out the Wizards site, and the free downloads are of excellent quality. Too bad there aren't more of them. I queried WotC about the old "Mail Order Hobby Shop" that TSR used to put out and they directed me to the SV games site. The complete address is www.svgames.com/tsr1106esd.html. I haven't downloaded anything from them though. Happy gaming! |

Teases Wooly. :) My friend just got mE that box set for X-mas and she found it on nobleknight.com of course. :) Aaron and I have been doing biz for years and I have never had problems with him.
Now I just gotta find the other seven FR sourcebooks/box sets to finish my set. YAY! |

The old Mail Order Hobby Shop was where I found FR1 Waterdeep and the North, still sealed... I also got both the Dragon Magazine CD-ROM Archive and the Forgotten Realms Interactive Altas from them, at a nice discount (I got both when they were discontinued; the first one netted me a serious discount on the second one ). |

Checking feedback on the person is important too. I've only had a couple bad turn outs but in the end, everything worked out. |

I've used e-bay twice. Once I picked up the module "The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun" and another time I picked up the original G1,G2,and G3 modules--Against the Giants. I made out well both times. I mean, the stuff was used, but very servicable. (I had to bid insanely high for the g series though.
I'm really after all the original 1st edition modules 'cause I played them as a very young boy, with my older brother and his friends. I guess its more a nostalgia thing. (Some of them I didn't adventure in, and a retro campaign would be nice, too!) |

Allow me to speak of one of my first eBay purchases...
In '89 or '90, shortly after it was published, I bought Forgotten Realms Adventures. I loved it, thought it was great. But there was a couple of references in there to various bits from FR4 The Magister. So I started looking for that.
I kept my eyes open, but I couldn't find it anywhere... After looking around for a few years and not finding it (this area wasn't, at that time, good for gaming), I broadened my search. I asked at a large game store in Orlando, but I was told it was very popular and that as soon as a copy came in, someone snagged it. But I could put my name on the waiting list, and maybe in a year or so...
I also tried called TSR's Mail Order Hobby Shop. No joy there, either -- they had none of them.
So the years passed, and I didn't have that book. And then, in '99 or 2000, I signed up for eBay. Shortly after doing that, it occurred to me that the book might be available there. So I checked. Sure enough, there was like three of them on there. I placed my bid... About 2 weeks later, the book was in my hand.
That was a positive experience. Since then, I've found a whole mess of Realms products on there. For reasons of money, I've not yet purchased every single Realms product, but I'm a whole lot closer than I was in 2000. See why I so readily recommend it to people? |

No Doubt Wooly Rupert! I'm wondering if the members of this site could somehow establish a swap area, or even if the powers that be would allow it? Something like there used to be in the back of Polyhedron Magazine (for those who don't know, it was a sort of classifieds for D&D products). Has this been tried on this site at all? Do you think that would be feasible? |

Some treasure I've found on eBay were the City of Splendors in absolute perfect condition. And one auction for Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast I just had to bid on (I already had a copy) was from a staff member at Bioware who had a box full left over from the Baldur's Gate game launch. It was in mint, *mint*, still in the shipping box from TSR mint. I couldn't pass that one up. |

I also highly recommend eBay for the same reasons, Wooly. I, too, finally found a copy of The Magister there for my first purchase!
Another of my fav's is, of course, GenCon! Crazy Egor's once sold me (about 3 years back) an unopened Dreams of the Red Wizards for cover price!
The Waterdeep Trail Map, however, still eludes me, unfortunately. It has almost become my Holy Grail, of sorts! |

Crazy Egors is mostly gone. :( Gods do I miss that store. Yes I live in the city where they had thier actual store. :) I bought the Menzo box set there when I was a teen, about 11+ years ago hehe. |

Looks like they still have an ebay store though. But thier physical store is gone. Ah well the owner had a few heart problems years ago and he sold his major store, in Henreitta, to Millenium Games, then moved to his warehouse in Hilton. A few years later it got flooded or they had a fire. :( And it probably got flooded again last year as well when we had torental rains durring the summer if it was still in Hilton. :( |

I would whole heartedly suggest www.NobleKnight.com, I shop there all the time. The site is absolutely wonderful, with a wide assortment of role playing products, especially out of print materials. I've managed to complete my Dragonlance collection through Noble Knights and have a large amount of novels I have bought from them has well. The material is has good or better then the listed condition, it is shipped with haste and arrives in short order. In my opinion, you simply can't go wrong with them. Take a look, you'll most likely find what you are searching for. |

Ahhh Crazy Igor...
One of the first conventions I went to (early 90s) in Columbus, OH, I actually outbid him to get the H1-4 modules in an auction there. Iactually picked up quite a few collectibles there. But those modules were the feircist bidding with just me and Igor . I felt high. I forget how much I actually paid for them. I actually have two H4's from that auction (one was missing the box and I use that one for leafing though).

The H4 module came in a box? I thought it was just a softcover module and H1 was the one that had a box. |
