The Chalice of the Serpents, part one:

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Claws his way up the walls. "Want more now, now NOW" Interesting article for sure. Has this old mysterious feeling over it somehow. And then I am not aiming at the talk about the god being older then Netheril |

And very interesting article, I like the fact it's in the Western Heratlands because that is the area I'm really craving at the moment. |

Resonates with subject matter I'm reading up on at the moment in books like Ricky Jay's Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women. |

Of course, they would wait to update until I was at work... And they did it with Realmslore, too, the Bane-spawn! |

Hmm interesting but perhaps Not as interesting as next months
The next installment of this column will commence a brief exploration of the Black Mysteries -- that is, particulars about the Order of the Black Flame that remain mysterious to all who don't happen to be Order members.
Now this is pure Gold! |

If it's the Order of the Black Flame I'm thinking about (and it may well not be given that Ed likes to double up on things to keep everyone confused!) it was first mentioned in Ed's Athalantar article in Dragon#228 and was a mages cabal from Unther. But that article said they were defunct from the early 200s DR ... probably a different Black Flame organisation.

Quite possibly, Ed is going to speak of the Order of the Black Flame dedicated to Kossuth (adherents of which sometimes possess levels in the Black Flame Zealot prestige class; see Unapproachable East). |

Hmmm... I don't remember that particular article. I must've missed that issue .
George, if Ed's next Realmslore column does indeed detail a different Black Flame organisation, can I ask you to summarise the main details of the article you mentioned and send them over to me? They sound particularly useful for an idea I've had on the backburner for a while now...
If it's too much trouble, just let me know and I'll try and secure the details some other way .

It's probably not the same "Black Flame" in hindsight but for your project, here's the reference from Dragon #228:
229 DR: Year of the Black Flame A cabal of wizards calling themselves "The Black Flame" forms in Unther and destroys several armies sent by local rulers to slay them. Over the 20 summers that follow, they develop many important magics, but dwindle in numbers. destroyed by rivals or lost in travels to other planes. They leave behind many powerful spells that later form much of the arsenal of the Red Wizards of Thay.

"but dwindle in numbers. destroyed by rivals or lost in travels to other planes. They leave behind many powerful spells that later form much of the arsenal of the Red Wizards of Thay."
At least allows for a few to keep order going, though certainly would have been hidden as ranks disappeared from being visable.
Odds are better though a new order arose and took the name from legend. |

A large and bearded bird tells me Garen Thal is correct. Three columns on this topic, I think. Then . . . a big and wonderful 'meaty' topic, if my guess isn't mistaken (Nimbral length 'big'). love to all, THO |

A bird, huh? Can this bird land on a telephone pole and tuck its head under its wing?

I agree. I'll double that first Oooh with another, and then support it with a Mmmm... .

A little something on both would be nice, I agree. However, if I really had to choose, I'd prefer some details on the various druidic orders across the Realms.

... Wow, that was fast. Not that I'm complaining of course . This sub-series is coming along rather nicely actually. And the symbology for the Order is up next... Neato .

It would certainly be nice, so long as Ed has the time to keep articles in the queue. |
