Sirius, I put your question to Ed, and he replied:
"Ah, but that would be TELLING."
And then he chuckled and added: "Both. Individual chaos at first, and the working together only later on."

So there you go. Clear as mud.

Ah but THO sometimes there are good teases...like this one.

Will fans of Cormyr get a story set within Cormyr's current time or a glimpse into a past event?

SB, I relayed your query to Ed, and he replied:

Almost-current. Post-DEATH OF THE DRAGON. Yes, I can say that much.

So there you have it.
Of course, being Ed, he also dropped ANOTHER hint: a different tale gives a glimpse of a traditional racial rivalry in the Realms, played out at a feast table.
Wooo hooo, I think I know what story he's hinting about.

Well met

Ohh i'm beside myself with excitement! I can not wait for this particular tome, it can't come soon enough!

Of course, I expect ye will work thy most seductive powers on the Great Sage, Hooded One to gleam yet more information on the tomes contents

Just think: if WotC sells enough copies of this (ahem) ESSENTIAL REALMSLORE tome, Ed has more than enough other unpublished stories to fill several more.
And I know he wrote some new ones especially to 'balance and round out' the book . . . I think I'll try my seductions on Mr. Athans and Mr. Archer to get a second Best of Ed, AND suggest Realms fans (such as *cough* Candlekeep scribes *cough*) could get to suggest or vote for possible characters and topics for those new tales.
Yessssss . . .

I think upheaval in Undermountain would make a great plot for one of the Realms' trilogies! Maybe Halaster is being overthrown by a cabal formed of his remaining apprentices and the Skulls of Skullport?

Redecorating Undermountain is not hard at all, a few Earthquake spells would serve that purpose well *VEG*

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

Another upheaval? I think the last one already caused enough chaos, death and damage to the Realms...

Besides, I think that Halaster's apprentices would know better than to challenge him in Undermountain. And as we've already seen, taking him out of Undermountain isn't the hottest idea, either... For that reason, I don't see the Skulls moving against him -- it could be ruinous to their city.

You know, I don't think I want to know any more about this book. I'm already bouncing up and down in desire. Any more and I might not make it to June. (Sigh. Why is it all the books I want to buy always seem to be another six months away???)

Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be...
Sigh... And now 4e as well.

Ah, yes, bouncing up and down with desire. One of my favourite activities. Or perhaps I should say 'in the throes of desire' . . . but no, that would be unladylike.
Ed has hinted that this book contains all but two of his 'Realms of' tales (I'm guessing the most recent two, Dragons and Shadow, are those omitted; that's what I would do, as editor), one of the two computer tales (I'm guessing Moonrise will be missing, just because of its length, though legal problems would be the most likely reason for leaving a computer-manual story out), and the "first" Realms short story, One Comes, Unheralded, to Zirta. We also know it won't have any of the Spin A Yarn tales in it . . . and I've posted all of Ed's other contents hints. A rich reading feast, to be sure.
Ohhh, I want a sequel already!

Surely that is! A sequel would only mean 100% original short stories of the Realms! Oh the delight that would be.

So we must Do Whatever Is Necessary to make sure such a sequel appears. I will, of course, use my (ahem) wiles, but to all scribes who attend GenCons: if you should meet with Mr Archer or Mr Athans, be sure to DEMAND such a tome, face to face.
And, of course, buy the first one, snapping it up as eagerly as if it was the rare and precious treasure I know it will be. Say, a hundred thousand copies. That ought to make them take notice, and want more . . .

100,000 copies? Hmmm, that's a pretty tall order... but if I start saving my pennies now, I should have enough. :)

Ed’s most recent tease about this book, to me:

You might just see at least three of the Seven Sisters as teenagers, fighting with each other as gals of the age often do (over guys). :}
