I thought it was cool how they have helped the distribution too. Though - having a 'good shot' at a full set with just 18 boosters sounds good - the fact that they are $20 a pop means an outlay of at least $360 - and that means eithe ryou get real lucky - or get doubles of some of the more desirable ones - so that y ou can more easilly trade for what you are still missing. Heck - I have 3 Bulettes myself.... but no Huge Red Dragon, Glabrezu, Behir or Warforged Titan. Oh well.

On a related note - I'm curious how other people have dealt with storage/display of the minis.

Dhomal

you could always try and pick the set up as singles

As for storage I keep my minis in 6, Metre long segmented boxes

Big giant fishing lure plastic case on sale at Wal Mart. The thing is roughly half a meter high, 0.4 meter long and 0.3 meter wide. It's huge. It currently holds my whole D&D mini collection, including over 10 huge minis (the top part is over 15 centimeter high; the four inner shelves can each hold 100-150 medium-sized minis...)

It looks like this, and yes, it makes you look very cool when you strut in front of other gamers with it! (and strikes fear in the hearts of your players when you reach for it during a game! )

Hello-

Always amazes me how fast replies come here - its really almost instant gratification!

And yes, I could try and get the minis as singles - but it just seems Sooo expensive that way. Plus - many of what I'm missing are old, and since they are all rare - the prices I've seen online are a bit steep in most cases. Sure - some are under $10 - but not many - and many are $15-$25 - with some even being more than that!

I don't even have an 'official' Harbinger checklinst - but I do have a few singles that I bought online as single cheaply a while ago - they were all commons I beleive.

I'm not sure these are in the right order - but quantities of what I'm missing:

Archfiends:
12 Uncommon
15 Rare

Giants of Legend:
3 Uncommon
13 Rare
4 Huge Rare

Aberrations:
17 Rare

Dragoneye:
5 Uncommon
15 Rare

Deathknell:
12 Rare

Angelfire:
1 Uncommon
16 Rare

Underdark:
2 Uncommon
15 Rare

War Drums:
10 Rare

I guess I'm curious how other feel about the rarity distribution. It seems somewhat unfair/difficult to get close to a full set when more than 1/3 of each set is rare.

--Shrugs--

Oh well - I guess I'll just have to deal with having some holes in the collection - and just have fun with what I have!

Dhomal

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!

Successfully traded with Xysma!

Some of the older sets have gone out production and are no longer avaliable (hence the expense)

The Beholder is probably the highest price mini Ive seen (Most stores where selling them for around 30 USD)although a Gencon promo of Elminster the Sage with a Stat card signed by Ed Greenwood was going for around 105 USD before he came out in Underdark

As for buying online it ultimately comes down to whats in the set and what you use them for. Also Wizards have started redoing some of the older figures in new sets for example the last set war drums had 2 Hill Giants (One was an Uncommon) the orgional Hill Giant came out in Archfiends 2 years ago. The Azer orgionally appeared in Harbinger the first set for DDM where now seeing a new Azer in WODQ

My trick for not buying too many minis is to make sure I'm always holding two or three books I want to buy when I look at the miniatures. Then I just tell myself, "Each of those boxes is one book I'll have to remove." Works like a charm most of the time. Of course...that was before I saw the Purple Worm...

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

I guy on another message board had the following in his sig, I thought it was pretty funny

Conan the D&D Mini Collector:

You do not know what is good in life! Conan tell them what is good in life!

To crack open the boosters, count the minis and hear the indifference of the women!

Thats good . . . ::sigh:: my wife never seems to understand the joy on my face when I open up a booster and get something like a death knight, or the dejection when I find out that that big hunk of plastic in the box was a Thaskor and not a Beholder . . .

One of WOTC chinese workers apparently grabbed a bunch of WODQ minis and posted pics of them on the net Wizards asked for the pics to be taken down but are now doing a strip tease of the leaked 17 minis

These WotDQ minis look absolutely ridiculous. This booster pack is not getting my vote of approval.

Why in the world can't they make a smart thing for once and sell us some classic D&D monsters instead of that crap? make a large beholder common or give us a huge freaggin gelatinous cube. Anything but that half-draconic, half-fiendish, or half-assed crap they've gotten into the habit of making.

Rant off... back to polite/regular mode...

Which figures brought this on?

By the way Rarity is tied to the number of painting steps the mini needs so your unlikely to ever see a Common Beholder. Your best chance of seeing another Beholder in a future set is probably a Death Tyrant or a Beholder with a name

As for the G Cube theres been a campaign for one on the DDM boards for a while but the problem has been making a mini entirely out of Clear plastic but this seems to have been solved if the Fire elemental in WODQ is entirely clear

Also the Fang Dragons up in preview X

I have to admit, this set does seem to have an inordinant number of newer, more alien creatues, rather than a mix of old, new, and suitable for PC/NPC that we have seen before.

Stil, I've love Fang Dragons since I first read about them in Dragon Magazine . . . back when new dragon species were REALLY rare and usually only expanded during the anual Dragon Magazine dragon themed issue.
