I particularly like the cover art for the City of Splendors tome. It is indeed, splendid...

Now, does anyone know who the contributing artists for this tome will be? Mr Boyd, could you possibly help us with this?

Okay, so this isn't the DL tome that Crook also mentioned he was working on .

Well then, given the details provided, this could indeed be the tome that Mr Baker suggested deals with demons, devils, and other particularly nasty beings in the Realms.

Marvelous cover. I hope it sticks. Any knowledgeable scribe know who might be responsible for the cover shown in this promo. page?

160 pages? (sigh) Man, those authors are slacking off. We need someone like Alaundo to wield his staff and keep them in line.

Work little goblins, work!

BTW, is the City of Splendors: Waterdeep just an update of the 2E one that was released a long time ago?

If it is, then it will be like a City of Rather Mild Splendors That You'd Have Just Enough Time to See On a Five-Day-Long Ten-City Tour. 160 pages just isn't enough, unless they're about to reprint the old box set and just cover what's happened since then. (If that's the case, then 160 pages might just barely be enough for lore and a feat or two. )

Hell hath no fury like all of Candlekeep rising in defense of one of its own.

Well met

Ohhh splendid, splendid Thank ye, Dargoth for bringing this information to us.

Indeed, the cover to City of Splendors is wonderful, it couldn't have been better for me and is just what I envisaged. I am disappointed however, in the page count. A city such as Waterdeep requires much more that what can be covered in 160 pages. I'm interested to see the level of lore contained within, bearing in mind that a fair chunk of the tome will be covering Prestige Classes and Feats etc.

The Champions of Ruin tome isn't quite what I imagined. The initial impression I get from this is a crunch overload and a lack of lore. That said, I will not judge as i'm sure it will be a fine tome regardless

If Lost Empires of Faerűn has enough lore then it could become the best of the bunch. Lost ruins, dungeon delving, ancient empires Realms style! This one and Champions of Ruin need to focus or they will disappoint.
City of Splendors: Waterdeep is a given even with PrC's and feats that are sure to abound.

Yeah, it does sound like a book of crunchy bits. And what a surprise, new races!

I am so looking forward to the Waterdeep book, though. I, too, am disappointed with the page count, but I'm still going to yank this book out of the hands of the guy at the game store before it can even hit the shelf.

You know I think I just figured out what got cut from the books

The modules chapter in the source book

On average the modules section of an FR source book has been around 15-30 pages of the source book. So it would fit with the size cut from 192 pages to 160 pages.

Added to this is following

WOTC said they where going to start publishing FR modules again (Although it hasnt been announced up to August 05)so if they do start publishing modules again then they may feel they dont need the short modules weve seen in the 3ed FR books

Something Eric said. It was mentioned in one of the Dungeon threads that Eric Boyd was doing a 3 part adventure series coming out around the time City of Spendors comes out (I suspect COS wont have any modules in it or maybe it did have some but got cut and will be republished in Dungeon)

Well thats my theory

You clever Dargoth you. Good point and I hope you are correct.

Any loss of pages is worrying to me, I hope your idea is correct, Dargoth. That said, I am greatly looking forward to City of Splendours and have every faith in Eric to do a grand job. The cover art also looks amazing, on the whole I think the cover art for Realms books is very good. I finally got Shining South this morning and have to say that is also a fairly awesome picture in my opinion.
Lost Empires could be very interesting and I will likely pick it up. Champions of Ruin I'm a little more dubious about. It's not a book which instantly grabs me to be honest so I'll have to wait and see on that one a little more.

Life is either daring adventure or nothing.

Exactly, as of right now, that tome is going to have to win me over as I have no desire currently to purchase it.
