Poll Question:
Living proof that I have too much nervous energy today, I thought I'd try out this new function by asking this question
Which upcoming Forgotten Realms novel scheduled for a 2005 release are you looking forward to the most?
Apologies for any novel left off the ballot. However, we appear to have only space for six possible answers. Please note, that if you click on the "View Results" option prior to voting, you will not be allowed to vote.

Well met
My word, you've certainly started off with a very difficult poll, SiriusBlack
All are HIGHLY anticipated novels for me and all be excellent authors. However, after much thought, I chose Midnight's Mask.
As stated, a very difficult choice indeed, but I base my vote on the following reasons:
Waterdeep - Little is known of this novel, I hear that it is not in the style of Cormyr: A Novel and Evermeet: Island of Elves, nevertheless, i'm sure it's to be quite amazing. The reason for not choosing this is that I expect it will be put back to the back end of the year or the year after
The Rite - I thoroughly enjoyed The Rage, and I expect to enjoy this one just as much. However, middle books of a trilogy often tie up areas from book one and set the stage for book three. Or so I try and tell myself
Farthest Reach - Book one of this trilogy is one of the best elven Realms novels I have read. I'm very excited about this book, but base my decision not to vote for this one as per the feeble decision above
The Emerald Sceptre - If you thought my reasons were pathetic for the above two, well now they get worse! I have yet to obtain a copy of The Ruby Guardian, but am very anxious to start it as soon as I lay my hands on the novel. Based on the very high quality and different style of The Sapphire Crescent I expect the whole trilogy to be astounding. I can not place this in my most anticipated number one slot though, simply for the fact that I have not read book two.
Resurrection - Book six, the conclusion of one amazing novel series! I'm very excited about this novel also, I have found this series to be very gripping. All authors of this series have done an impressive job in keeping the feel and flow between each novel. Paul S Kemp has written many of my favorite Realms novels and i'm sure he will do a great job here. The reason for me not voting this one in, is that i'm slightly nervous about how this epic will end and some of the events I expect to unfold.
Midnight's Mask - Which brings me to my chosen novel. I'm a big fan of Erevis Cale, from his Sembia series beginnings, through to this trilogy. The first two books left me gob-smacked, simply stunning! The cliff-hanger on book two has me anxiously awaiting book three and thus the conclusion to the trilogy.
All that said.... ahem, wake up! ...all that said, all six book choices have my heart pounding with excitement. Thou hast worn me out with those choices, SiriusBlack

I agree Alaundo, this was a tricky one. I went for Waterdeep as the idea of Ed and Elaine working together just blows your mind. Midnight's Mask would have been first choice but then I realised that I havn't started that trilogy yet. Doh.. |

In making the poll, I anticipated that Waterdeep would win. In fact, I'll be very surprised if it doesn't even though I didn't vote for it. |

Pretty good question SB,and a pretty awesome feature Alaundo as well.I chose Farthest Reach as the most anticipated novel for me.I think that Forsaken House was the best novel written all around in a long long time.No disrespect to all the other authors mind you.Everyone has done a wonderful job.IMO this was just the best of the best. From the story,to the characters, the villians, the history. What I am really anticipating about this whole series is the impact that this story is going to have on the elves as a whole. That's the most intriguing part for me.Though I will say that I can't wait for the others on this list as well. |

If Waterdeep wasn't on the list, it'd be a toss-up between Farthest Reach and The Rite, though Farthest Reach would prolly take it.
But hey now, Waterdeep was on the list. That book has three huge things going for it: Ed, the master of Realmslore, as one of the writers; Elaine, my fave Realms author, as the other writer, and it's set in my fave place in all the Realms. So of course I had to pick Waterdeep! |

My choice as well. I don't know enough about Waterdeep and while I do strongly desire it, Richard Baker's has done a remarkable job in creating excitement from this reader about his trilogy.

My biggest worry was a writer's feelings being hurt if he/she was left off the list. Two immediately come to mind that I would have put on the list if I had more room.

Well said and I agree. I plan to purchase all the novels listed in this poll.

Exactly. You're not waiting for a final showdown/battle like some other novels. You are interested in the impact the events will have on the Realms. That's a powerful factor in my decision to select that novel. |

Two authors with a proven track record of writing fine Realms novels. Add the fact both are wise enough to interact with scribes on here and that both are quite charming, and well, a powerful voting bloc for any challenger to overcome. |

I heard somewhere that the 2005 releases would include the debut of this new guy that Wizards chose from out of 500 submissions to an open call they held. I really looking forward to seeing what this guy does. Of course, he could totally bomb, being an unknown and all, but WotC must have seen something in him, right?
Seriously, there are a couple books on that list that I'm really curious about. Unfortunately, I fell a little behind in my reading this year, and I have yet to start most of the series whose sequels are mentioned. |

Same here Kameron, at least your job means you are around the Realms a lot. Working for Bentley is nowhere near as glamourous

Ditto that... I've started some of the series listed, but others I ignored for a while. Now that my curiosity is piqued, I've got to shake loose the funds to check them out... |

An excellent poll SiriusBlack
Even though I am eagerly looking forward to each and every single book on that list, y'all know how much I like Wood Elves so Farthest Reach gets my vote |

Undecideds....
Seriously, I can understand the feeling. I thought, if there were more options, of putting an "All of the above" choice. However, I thought too many people would select it.

A minor correction that you may want to consider to your poll, Sirius. The Cunningham/Greenwood novel is actually entitled City of Splendors, with the subtitle "A Waterdeep Novel," or something like that. I only mention this because there is already a novel named Waterdeep, from the Avatar series, and we wouldn't want to confuse new readers. |

It is far easier for me to pick up a book in a series that I have started than to start anew. I had to choose Farthest Reach. |

I picked "Resurrection" by Paul S. Kemp, because it's been such a long series, and I can't wait to find out what happens in the end of Lolth's silence. I'm also quite excited about Farthest Reach and Midnight's Mask, as Richard Baker and Paul S. Kemp are currently my favourite authors right now. Yes, even more than RAS! (Gasp!) |

I'm not surprised that City of Slendors has the most votes. EC and Greenwood are at the top of the pyramid, and if any two authors can give us Waterdeep the way it's meant to be given, these two can.
I'm also very much looking forward to The Rite. The Rage was absolutely awesome. A classic group of adventurers. They remind me so much of the Knights of Myth Drannor, and how that camaraderie exists within a group. Sammaster's return is also a nice touch at the past, a past I dearly miss.
I'm so thankful for the great FR novels out there. |

A difficult choice indeed, this poll. You've me in a bind Sirius...
While my first inclination was to vote for Resurrection, I simply could not completely look past my brewing interest for the magical collaboration of Lady Cunningham and Lord Greenwood on the upcoming 'Waterdeep' novel. This will truly be a wondrous tale, at least for me, since they are without equal among my listing of favoured Realms authors.
I'm hurrying to have my current backlog of novels (which will likely take several months to read through) finished before City of Splendors release, just so I can fully devote my attention and time to it. It will be well deserved... Of that, I am certain .

Well theres no surprise on the winning novel so far. I think that because this novel has been talked about for many years and following the success of both Cormyr:A Novel and Evermeet, and the authors of those two working on a single novel together on one of the most (if not THE most) popular location in the Realms, it's a sure fire winner.
It would have been interesting to see how the poll would have turned out if Waterdeep hadn't been in the running. I didn't vote for this one however, The Emerald Sceptre got my vote , or was it The Rite? Dang!
That said, there isn't one novel in that list that hasn't got me running around the room in excitement! i'm anxious to read them all.

OK, since none of my fellows wants to be the cheesy self-promoter, I'll take one for the team:
How about Realms of the Dragons II? Sure, it's an anthology and not a novel, but it features the largest collection of "new blood" in the Realms since... well, ever, if I'm not mistaken.
Aren't you curious to see what we'll come up with?
Ugh. I suddenly feel very dirty. I think I need a shower... ;) |
