The characters of the Realms have shown more than their fair share of magical prosthetics. Corin from Temple Hill had an ensorceled hand, for example, and Dorn's half-golem-ness was interesting. What I'm wondering is if these are case-specific, or if there is some standard method (or price) for replacing a preexisting appendage for a magical substitute? Do any particular clergies provide this service? Is there any info on the relationship between the person and the device? I know these questions are a bit obscure, but they've been nagging me for a while, so I'm afraid you scribes must pay the price .

From my source they are case specific. The church that may provide the service is the church of Gond. As far as the relationhip between the device and person info, unbeknownst to me. I hope i had helped on the first two questions. |

iirc, "drizzt do´urdens guide to the underdark" mentioned drow-made artificial limbs, but i´m not really sure on that. could also have been somewhere in the menzoberranzan-box... |

Seems like the characters gain of magical prosthetics are due to being at the wrong place at the wrong time, or they want to enhance themselves (like cyborgs seeking out better parts). All in all, it make the story interesting and characters seem totally unreal. |

i remember from my 2nd ed days that when my dwarven cleric got acquainted to a vorpal axe of a guardian tanar'ri and lost an arm in the process, that there was a way of letting a limb grow back but i also remember that my dwarf had the option of replacing his arm with a mithral limb. maybe you could find hints in that encyclopedia magica that was published in 2nd ed.
another funny example... the hand and eye of vecna! :)

There's a reasonable amount of detail on half-golems, yuan-ti grafts, and illithid grafts in either Fiend Folio or MM2. You might be able to deduce prices for your areas of interest by comparison with those write-ups.

There is also prosthetic arm wondrous item in Defenders of the Faith splatbook for 3.0. This item, called Arm of Nyr, is made of mithril and provides all kinds of bonuses to the person who uses it to replace a lost limb. Cost is 12,800 gp. |

The 2E sourcebook The Drow of the Underdark mentioned prosthetics, as well. There wasn't a lot of info, but I did get a nifty idea from there...
And another Realms character with a prosthetic attachment is Baelam the Bold. He lost a hand, stole a mechanical golem, and had its hand grafted onto his wrist. |

And what about Salvatore's deep gnome with two prosthetic hands. Can't remember his name at the moment... |
