Does anyone know of a source for finding the various noble familes of Sembia(Selgaunt in particular) and their members short of going back and picking through the novels for any references I can find? Levels and stats would be a great bonus. Thanks

I believe there are a few entries in the old FRA hardcover. I dont recall seeing anything anywhere else. Back in the old days, TSR stated that Sembia would be left undeveloped to allow DM's to create the nation themselves without worrying about TSR conflicting with their material.

...and thus, the Sembia series of novels was born And what a series it is too!! I'd love to see a Sembia sourcebook ::drool:: But I digress...

Yes, definitely not alone...

Might I suggest that you post this question over in the Questions for Ed Greenwood scroll in the Novels section.

I'm sure the Hooded One can pitch the question to Ed for you... And, I'm sure we'd all like to read the response...

I fear if they made a Sembia supplement, it would all be about the Silvern Raven PrC and about that organization. It would have some Cult of Dragon PrCs and unique spells. Through in some merchant-type PrCs, feats, and spells, and that would be it.

Personally, I would rather see a Volo's Guide to Sembia. I don't care too much about the power structure, but I want to know what the land (and its people) is like.

There's a time I would have shared the same fears. However, Serpent Kingdoms was a tome filled with lore. I hope that is an indication as to where WOTC is heading with future supplements. Time will tell as Shining South comes out shortly.

I think you will find that the majority of future FR products (at least those to be released in 2005) will be "true" to the setting and the previous source material. But that's a discussion for another thread.

Unfortunately, at this current point, only a careful perusal of the Sembia novel series will provide you with a host of details on the noble houses of Selgaunt, or the "old Chauncel" as they are called. As someone else suggested, the old 2E FRA hardcover may also provide you with some info.

Keep in mind that Sembian "nobles" are not really noble at all. There is no king to ennoble them. Just think that every successful merchant/businessman who makes a pile of gold starts taking on airs, building mansions and country estates and maybe even buys old foreign titles and adopts them from places like the Vilhon, the Moonsea or the Heartlands.

In the interests of restoring a strong sense of friendship with my fellow Master of Realmslore, Sirius, I've now removed the contents of this post in the hopes that it will further help to forge a new spirit of "togetherness" between both myself, and Sirius Black.

Thank you .

To get back on topic.... I just flipped thru the cities section of the FRA, and sadly, there were no specifically named Sembian nobles that I saw.

The only two I can recall off hand, from that sourcebook, are Shamur and Thamalon Uskevren. Those two later became two of the core characters for the Sembia novels. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Yeah, but his original offensive comment showing his mindset towards America was allowed. That in itself shows quite a bit about this board's moderation.

Actually, I agree with you Sirius . If nothing else, my original and unintentionally "offensive" statement which appears to have been completely misunderstood should also have been removed along with the rest of mine and Sirius's rattlelings.

Rest assured that this board does not discriminate against Americans, or lesbians. It now appears to be nothing more than a poorly executed judgment on the part of the moderators. I'm sure Alaundo meant no disrespect to either Americans in general, or any lesbians who happen to be a part of the Candlekeep community.

Sirius, if you're willing to look beyond the difficulties we have both had toward each other in the past, I would like to re-extend my hand in friendship, and ask that in the spirit of community and brotherhood that Candlekeep exemplifies, we return to the once "friendly" relationship that we previously shared...

What say you friend Sirius...?

First, I apologize to the viewers of this thread that wished to read and discuss Sembian nobles. Rest assured, I like the topic as evident by my earlier posts and will do as much as I can to clear this thread of my off-topic comments/observations over someone's insulting remark.

As to someone's offer, that needs to be taken up in private. I'm easily reached and have an answer waiting. So please, email me...pretty please with sugar on it....

Well then, I'll send you a private ethereal message, complete with sugar, and a nice juicy cherry...

I'd also like to extend my apology to those scribes reading this scroll, who may have been distressed by recent events between myself and Sirius.

Please let us return to the topic of Sembian Nobles.

And, building upon that, Faraer, do you have anything to add to this discussion on the merchant nobles of Sembia?

Well met

Hmmmmm, it appears that this has been an unpleasant place of late. I assume that Tethtoril has (rightly so) removed any offending pennings from this scroll before my arrival.

I know not of what has transpired herein, but I can assure you that no offense was intended by any Candlekeep moderators by omitting any posts from being removed.

Enough said on this matter, I will clean this scroll up shortly, so let's keep to the matter of Sembian nobles

Seems like they deleted the posts themselves Alaundo thus saving you the work I did not see them before they were deleted but no worries here I'm glad to see whatever it was got solved between the two of you

Now back onto the topic... Anyone think theres a chance that a few of the Sembian series characters will get their own series? Similar to the Everis Cale series. Personally I would really love to see each and every one have their own. Especially Larajin and Leifander from Heirs of Prophecy which was my favorite from the series

The biggest obstacle right now to another Sembia character getting a series is all the authors seem to be quite busy with various other series/projects. Given how well each author writes, I find this fact not surprising at all.

If you do some searching, you can find Paul Kemp briefly discussing in one thread picking up the Cale/Tazi story sometime in the future. Nothing concrete has been planned. However, if I recall correctly, he mentioned that he and VWR had discussed this event possibly taking place.

Thus, I guess Cale might survive his series after all.

Very true SiriusBlack, Lisa Smedman is busy with her House of Serpents series. Still it would be nice if she went back to Jarajin afterwards

Thats very good news about Everis as well. I was starting to wonder about his future

Exactly, her series, Kemp working on the Cale series, Byers working on making sure dragons destroy all of Faerun. These people are busy.

I've seen various opinions on different boards regarding Smedman's characters introduced in the Sembian series. Her book stands out as one of my favorties from the series. Yet, some really haven't liked it as much.

Too interesting a character to kill off. He can be tortured and tormented for at least a couple more novels.

Since I've announced this elsewhere, I'll announce it here: It appears that there will be another trilogy involving some of the characters from the Erevis Cale trilogy sometime in the near future. Nothing is carved in stone, but another series appears very probable. Unfortunately, I do not have any details that I can share at this time, but I'm pleased enough with the news that I wanted to share it.

And Sirius, note the careful choice of words: "some of the characters from the Cale Trilogy...." No telling who survives Midnight's Mask.

Now that is wonderful news to wake up to. Thank you for sharing this information.

Noted, noted. But, you can't kill Cale. Just think of how worried he might get if he ever possibly gets to meet Tazi again since he's undergone some substantial change since the parting between the two. Of course, I kinda like the new lady that entered into Cale's life near the end of the last novel. Yes, a great many possibilities for future stories.
