G'day everyone.
I'm in the process of making a Svirfneblin PC, and am trying to come up with an interesting background to why he is now on the surface. (I'm trying to steer clear of the whole slave thing). Also, a few tips on what his persona would be like from living down in the dangerous underdark would be handy too.
So basically i'm asking you all for your help and ideas in a Svirfneblin background. Throw me ideas!!

He could be a refuge from Blidgenstone. Either settling below Silverymoon or in Mithral Hall with the Battlehammer clan. But from either of those I don't know how he would get to Waterdeep... especially with the Orc hordes all around the Silver Marches area.
If you want him to be an evil deep gnome he could come from Skullport under waterdeep itself. |

2) From the Underdark tading out post Mantol Derith
3)From the Deep Gnome city thats under the Moonshae islands (As mentioned in tDouglas Niles novels based there)

I can't recall whether or not we were actually given a name for this city in the books. Does anyone else have any information on this? George?

If you want to go a little farther afield than the Moonshaes, there is a colony of deep gnomes under Bloodstone pass in Damara. Not much info can be found on them, other than the fact that they run a school of illusionist magic. |

You are talking about Deepearth.
A city that lays in a huge underground cavern that sits directly under the Bloodstone mines. It's said to be home to about 800 svirneblin, most of which are part of an intricate society that has been formed with the surface dwellers.

Since you've already got some good location suggestions...what's the character basics? class? is he evil or good?
Either way - persona wise - I think he'd be hesitant to trust strangers. Does he have a fear of the sun or fascinated by it? Is he afraid of the surface world or curious about it? Does he automatically distrust typical underdark races or surface races?
Hope that helps. ~Fireheart |
