The characters of the realms have made us laugh, cry, and yell out in absoulute rage. All have different qualites that make them perfect...well at least in some of our views. Now, my fellow scribes, you have a chance to tell the best character of your choosing and the reason of the chosen. This small amount of knowledge can evolve into something of great wonder.( i don't know how, I just felt like writing that) Post your favorite character and the reason for them...that is all I ask. Fight strong, Aldrick the Nightblade

I tried this several months ago. Several scribes responded. There were some great characters and a few nice ideas come from it. I don't remember where I put that scroll though? *scratches head as he wanders to his corner* |

Aldrick part of being a sage includes an amount of patience. I removed your two entries in this journal which lay in a total of less than an hour after the original post. Give thy fellows time to respond.
Also a fair warning in advance, keep to the topic. |

Patience isn't one of my virtues either, but I try... at times.

Phew, the BEST character... For me that means the most sympathic and the best developed character from the novels I've read so far...
Drizzt - especially in The Hunter's Blades-Trilogy he seems very well developed and ... credible
Pharaun - this character is very interesting and congenial, although it's a bit strange that on the one hand he despises the matriarchy, but on the other hand he follows Quenthel's orders and helps to find out what happened to Lolth. As a mighty wizard he really should able to kill at least Quenthel and he should be able to find some way to deal with Jeggred
Erevis Cale (damn, af first I wrote Elminster Cale, strange mistake ) - very interesting, very congenial character - and he's a shade! . I very much like the idea of shades, they are a mighty and interesting... species and it's great that Cale demonstrates that non-evil shades are possibe |

Galaeron (Return of the Archwizards series): I thought Troy did a great job at with his internal issues and conflicts while dealing with the conflicts going on around him. He was my first real look at what those who deal with the Shadow Weave go thru and endure. |

I love all of Greenwood's characters... when he's doing the writing for those characters, that is.
I also like Ryld, Nimor, Jeggred, and Cale.
Of course, I love Drizzt. |
"That's right, hurl back views that force ye to think by name-calling - 'tis the grand old tradition, let it not down! Anything to keep from having to think, or - Mystra forfend - change thy own views!"
Narnra glowered at her father. "Just how am I to learn how to think? By being taught by you?"
"Some folk in the Realms would give their lives for the chance to learn at my feet," Elminster said mildly. "Several already have."

Give him time. He'll deal with either figure when it benefits him the most. Good choice here. You have to love a character who worries about the snow soaking through his shirt even when Quenthel is screaming at him.

Damn, forgot about Galaeron! He's really a great character and I like him being a shadow mage, although not deliberately - I love the whole shadow stuff, shades, Shadow Weave, shadow adepts etc.
I really hope they will make it into Baldur's Gate III. |

I'm not ashamed to say that Drizzt is my favorite character. His adventures are the reason I wanted to play in the Realms, and not just read about them. Jarlaxle is another. He's just cool, calm, and collected in any situation. |

My favorite is Leifander the half-elf twin shapshifting druid/ranger from Lisa Smedmans Heirs of Prophecy from the Sembia series. If you haven't read this book or any other by Lisa Smedman I encourage to you go buy them she is by far my favorite new Realms author |

My favourite is the battlerager Pwent.
A friend of mine had a PC (Porki Thule, the most obnoxious dwarf ever) very similiar to Pwent but created him way before RAS wrote his novels (could he sue for copywrite? ) |
Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil...prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. EAT LEADEN DEATH DEMON! Terry Pratchett

Obould. An orc with subtlety (for an orc). Now that's cool. Plus, now he's got the blessing of Gruumsh -- tough as manticore claws.
Too bad he's probably fated to fall under Drizzt's sword. That silly dark elf chops up all the good bad guys!

I definetly would put Galaeron as one of my most favorite Realmsian characters. I loved his internal conflict (which I found much more credible than Drizzt's...or it may be that I have just read so much about Drizzt's internal conflict, that it loses credibility... - sorry if I insulted any of you fans out there - didn't mean to). I also love the way he seemed to cope with it in the end, and accept it without bending to it. Well, anyways, I love pointy-eared elves...

Ghost from the Cleric Quintet. He is definately one of the most evil, twisted, most coldblooded killers out there. When I read the Cleric Quintet the first time I really really hated him. Now that's a great villain |

Cherrn, now that I come to think of it, yes, Ghost was a rather despisable character... An interesting choice there, as he is only known from the Cleric Quintet... |

Two of my favourite characters would have to be Jarlaxle, and Artemis Entreri. I may have a slight bias towards them because my favourite class is the rogue class, but they are still awesome. And if only Artemis and Drizzt could work out their differences, what a team they would make. They already know that they can fight well together. If only. |

Ditto! I've mentioned here at Candlekeep in the past that Ghost is my most hated Realms character! It makes me angry just thinking about it right now |

Pharaun -- a dark elf who is actually intelligent, colorful, and not nice. Thank gods. I've had enough of one-note, motiveless "omg I must defy the evil stereotype of my people!" drow (from profic and fanfic alike), or cliched, brainless drow villains who have all the intellect of a retarded ant colony.
Kiva -- for being such a devious, complex, and ultimately, tragic character.
Shamur -- uncommon choice, but hey. A wonderfully strong female character who, for once, doesn't need to be stunningly beautiful or blessed with divine/super powers, gaggag, or be the bestest swordswoman/mage/what-have-you in the entire Realms. And also over forty, in a genre chock-full of heroines who are in their teens, twenties, or their thousands (but look like they're in their twenties due to elven blood or magic or whatever).
Pavel and Will -- for being blessedly normal characters in a novel chock-full of oddballs. And they are still interesting and amusing in spite of not being special. |

Isn't he a delight to read? He's such a concrete character. I hope he survives a certain series for possible future stories way down the line. I mean think of all the future witticisms that will be lost if he perishes.

I'm only a third of the way through that series. I do agree with you so far. She's very interesting. |

I have a penchant for witty characters with a personality, so Paharaun is definetly one of my favorites. I would also include Jack Ravenwild for the same reasons. Pikel and Ivan, as well as Bruenor and Regis are two pairs who can also keep you laughing for a while.
Some others which are a bit more serious are Erevis Cale and Riven (I enjoy his fondness for dogs, which I share; GREAT villain/anti-hero). These two really rank up high in my list. Cadderly was also another whose inquisitive nature I truly liked.

When I first got hold of Mr. Salvatore's books I became an instant fan of Drizzt. However, after reading the first three WOTSQ books, I found out that he (and the rest of the characters) could have been done much better. For one thing I don't like Drizzt's incessant whining in "The Lone Drow" (yeah I know, he thinks he has lost his friends and all, but somehow it just doesn't sit well with me). Another thing I don't quite like are the dwarves...they are too...cartoony (too much caffeine and too Scottish :) Worst of all it rubbed off on Catti-brie - shuch a turn off
So, my favorite characters are: <drumroll>
Drizzt - I actually have no rational explanation...he's a two-weapon-fightin-drow-and-he-kicks-a$$ that's why
Pharaun - two words: his attitude
Quenthel - I so like to watch her trying boss everyone around (and managing quite well considering she's practically powerless). Besides, she's a drow priestess - what's not to like?!
Entreri - Marvelously made antihero. I especially like how his character has developed.
There are a couple others, mostly drow, but those four are my favorites

Haley: Hey wait a minute, aren't dark elves evil?
Nale: Oh, my, no. Not since they became a player race. Now the whole species consists of nothing but chaotic good rebels, yearning to throw off the reputation of their evil kin.
Haley: What are the scimitars for?
ZZ'dtri: They're standard issue. |

Best 5:
1. Elminster 2. Vangerdahast 3. Azoun IV 4. Drizzt 5. The various dwarves depicted in "Thousand Orcs" -- I've loved those recent RAS books for their focus on dwarves

You mentioned you have only read the first three WOTSQ books. Is that correct?
If so I'm very curious to see how you view Quenthel after reading books IV and V. In those novels, she undergoes a shift in personality compared what has been shown in the first few books. Thus, I wonder if she will still be a fave. |

She does!? Somehow, I don't like your tone... I am sorely tempted to buy Extinction right away, but the problem is its a hardcover book (unlike the others I own), and $17 is a bit much especially when you add s&h. Do you perhaps know when the paperback is due to be released?

That's because I wasn't too pleased with many of the events in the last novel.

02/2005 is what the WOTC site lists. I for one enjoyed Extinction although there are some hints within that novel of the shift in Quenthel's personality. |
