Come on now. If they get Paris Hilton into the movie, it might be OK.
Just think, Paris in a push up/lace up bodice, it can't be that bad. |

Are you openning a book of bets on the film then Karesch?
Put me down for 5Gp that it's a dog of a flick! I just can't see it being any good. |

You dissapoint me... kinda. I liked the D&D movie. How often do you get to see a B movie of that caliber? AND, I believe that the second will be a wonderful B just like the first. Why does no one apriciate the B movie any more? Where is the Rubber Chicken when you need it? |

I have a friend who loves B movies... But even he avoided the first D&D movie, and will likely avoid the second travesty movie if it is made. |

I have nothing against B movies, I just firmly believe that the 1st D&D movie isn't even worthy of that lofty title. I've watched paint dry and that was more coherent and entertaining than the debacle of a film that sadly bore the D&D title. I appreciate a B flick any day but to say the D&D film is of that caliber is drawing one hell of a long bow in it's defence.

None of them. The best way to irritate the fewest fans is to make a movie with new characters and a new story -- just like the many, many novel authors have done. As I've said more than once, even Drizzt Do'Urden was once a brand-new character. |

Good books doesn't necessarily equate to good movies. |

what i´d like to see most is a glimpse from faeruns past. that way, "current" events are not in danger of being "misinterpreted" and no major fan-group will be miffed.
it should play in a high-magic surrounding, not because i love epic magic or highlevel- play (the contrary!) but because magic is something that defines faerun, and therefore should have great influence in a movie.
there were lots of "advanced arcane societies" in faeruns past: - myth drannor (perhaps no good choice because of the huge fanbase and because it´s still "kind of around"), - netheril (imagine karsus completing his spell and the follwing apocalypse. would make a great finale!) - the elfish crown-wars, including scenes in evermeet - tales from the days of thunder, featuring one of the creature races (paris hilton in a snake-dress, anyone? ) - the rise and fall of the imaskari empire (like netheril, great epic scenes) with a possible sequel: the orcgate wars that took place centuries later
that´s what comes up off the top of my head...

Alright, it took a REALLY boring day at work for me to even want to read this thread, let alone get into the discussion. The thought of a DnD movie does make me cringe. Still, I think there will be a good DnD movie one day. As long as DnD is still being played, there will be people who try to make a good movie out of it. I think that there is the possibility of many bad ones, but one day someone will hit it right.
Next thought is that Paris Hilton in a push up is really creepy to me. That little girl is a stick! I don't know what people find attractive in her. They better put a bunch of fur clothing on her so she doesn't look so third world-ish skinny (though the fur would just kinda continue the third world look).
Personally, I wouldn't care what world that the DnD movie would be made in, but think it should actually be set in SOME world. I vote lastly for FR. I believe that they would make a crappy FR movie. The only way to avoid making a crappy FR movie would be to avoid every single "iconic" FR character, like Wooly suggests. Also, they shouldn't make it a high magic setting, or it will be really cheesy to most normal people out there. Personally, I don't like the FR as a high magic setting and don't believe that it was originally set out to be that way, but that is a whole other argument.
What game world would work? Heck, I would even say Eberron. Sure, I don't plan on buying anything of that game world, but that doesn't mean that they can't make a decent movie out of it. I'm sure that the overall story for Eberron is interesting. If it is DnD and doesn't suck, I don't care what game world. I would even recommend Greyhawk as the world. Who can really say bad things if they remade some classic DnD module like "Temple of Elemental Evil" or "Against the Giants"? Those are some great classic modules that even FR fans can't deride.
I believe that the only way a FR movie would work is if they abondened the major characters and got rid of all the over-powered magic and stuck with the real strength of the Forgotten Realms - the detail of the game world. What really makes FR cool is how realistic the game world is and how much detail into little mundane things there are. The freakin' cheeses of the game world are detailed! You know what Cormyr is like without having to really know who the monarch of Cormyr is. You have regional flavor of the game world that is independant of characters and powerful groups battling each other. Fearun is a workable game world with much thought-out detail. That's what a movie should focus on. |

*Talwyn leans back and watches with increasing interest as young Aldrick threatens Sirius with death. He muses to himself as to how long this little duel will last, no more than a couple of rounds at the most*
However, I think that Lashan had made some good & valid points about avoiding major realms NPC's being in the new film. I believe that the film will be as per the last one, set in a world which no one is familiar with. That'll be a blessing as if it's a pile of crap as a movie, least ways the poo is somewhere else stinking up the place and not blemishing our beloved FR

My dear sir, how in the name of Hades could you misconstrode my previous post as a threat? I was merely musing upon your choice of words to Sirius and the potential consequneces they may bring. It's like being an observer in a bar where there's a hardened gun-fighter is calmly drinking and some young voice out of the crowd says "Go for your gun Mr" - it's the next few moments that are going to be interesting....
I'm not in the habit of issuing threats, too much grandstanding

Better retract those claws boys. Wouldn't want to attract Alaundo's attention, with all the stuff he's got to do at the moment. He just might take all his stress out on someone... wouldn't want to be there when that happens. |

Actually, if the movie was made in one of the well known worlds, I think it would do better. I think that the backgrounds to many of the current game worlds are pretty well developed. It would certainly sound better then that made up country that DnD the movie used. They could always use Eberron. |

I think that instead of a D&D movie, there should be:
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: THE MUSICAL!
just think of it, great show tunes such as the rock power number "Dwarf on the Water", or the reflective "I just don't know what to do with that Elf?" and finaly the sweet "Why do Bards suddenly appear?"

Not in the slightest my dear fellow, just trying to inject some levity into this thread. But I think the idea has merit, I mean look at some of the other musicals tht are out there and how ridiculous their premises are: Cats? Nixon goes to China? There is already a heroic fantasy musical: The Eddars, ancient Norse sagas set to song, great stuff if you ever get the chance to listern to them. |

No need to worry about attempting such a task. Any film that potentially has Paris Hilton in it is screaming out for commentary from the peanut gallery. |

I know that P. Hilton wanted to make some $$$ but I didn't know she was that desperate!!! What part did she get in the movie? Probably a very short part too. |

Nope, latest rumor I hear is Justin Timberlake might be coming on board as well.
Just kidding....
As for the Paris part, nothing confirmed yet. I'll leave it to other scribes' imaginations as to what type of role she would be suited for. |
