When an awakened bear cub made a wish upon a star that he would grow up to be as strong as a dragon, a certain member of the Faerie Court was listening. Known to some people as the infamous "Butterbear", the baerie dragon is believed to be a tall tale by most who hear of him, but it has been rumored that the forest that he inhabited has numerous cubs appearing with giant faerie wings.

Very cute Sleyvas. Do the cubs grow up as usual bears and lose their wings? Or do they age, keep their wings and stay pretty much the same size? For a breath weapon, they possibly use lazy, sleepy gas. PC's can gain their cooperation with combs or pots of honey, much like faerie dragons love appie pies. |

I don't know... I kind of like hallucinogenic and laughing gas. Makes people doubt the story they're being told when someone continually giggling tells it to them.
They grow to be full sized bears. They can fly, but its bobbing all around (like a butterfly, but much larger, so picture drops of 2 or 3 feet all the time)), and they can only reach an altitude of 30 feet. Anyone who tries to ride one will get seasick (even a tiny creature). Like a faerie dragon, they have a slightly longer neck (it's still thick though) which they normally keep "tucked in", but when they need to they can suddenly extend it to look up and behind them.
They like to sleep at the top of young duskwood trees, which are not yet over 30 feet tall, because those trees have limbs only at the top and "splayed" out relatively flat, but as strong as iron to support their weight.
Oh, and on gaining their cooperation... yes, honey.. apple pies.... jelly of all sorts.... fruit tarts... they all work, especially if warm. But its especially known for its tendency to raid the village's stores of butter, adding to the hilarity that some find in stories of "the Butterbear". One local bard even made up a song about "The Fluttering, Cluttering, Buttersweet Gluttoning, Farrukh Uttering, then found Slumbering Butterbear" that's coming to prominence. The story relates the time that Roary supposedly came to town one night, drank someone's cask of Buttersweet Strongdraught (think extra sweet butterscotch schnapps), then flew out of town slamming into roofs along the way while cursing in common, and finally falling to sleep where some teenage kids found it. The children ran to town, but by the time they returned with their parents the baerie dragon was gone but the empty cask was there. The children were all summarily spanked, told they shouldn't be running around on the streets at night screaming curse words, and they definitely needed to pay back the poor barkeep for stealing his cask of Buttersweet Strongdraught. The bard was one of these children, now grown to adulthood. |

Good, because even though I have not playtested them or even statted them, I just know in my heart of hearts that they are one of the best new creatures invented in the last week. I know it got me sidetracked yet again, but I may do a quick write up for dm's guild as a free product.
