Who would it be?

Why would you choose this character?

How would you purpose the resurrection take place?

Do Realms characters die? Between 3e and 5e there is a century of difference, and even the human NPCs are alive...

Instead of seeking change, you prefer a void, merciless abyss of a world...

Most of them are already back, reincarnated, weaveghosts, or what you have. At this point, I'd say Khelben too.

Varalla. A non-lich version would be powerful enough to take over the Darkhold but not so powerful that she wouldn't need the Zhents there for her plans of domination. She could restore the Zhentarim to an organization to be universally feared again. I may have to write that up.

"Iriaebor is a fine city. So what if you can have violence between merchant groups break out at any moment. Not every city can offer dinner AND a show."

Khelban, or perhaps one or more of the Seven Sisters, such as Qilue or the Simbul. I don't know exactly how I'd go about it, aside from maybe a hard retcon though.

Khelben. He's always been my favorite of the non-Seven Sisters Chosen, and an overall favorite.

Qilué can be used in a story as she is. She's a Weaveghost, she can talk and do stuff as normal, except she doesn't have a physical body. The Simbul, OTOH, would need this more.

A fair ending, but Ultimately very sad. If, and that's is a strong word, I run/play Descent into Avernus, his ending will NOT be what the book says, because its not just sad but pathetically written. I'd change that in a heartbeat.

If I ran that one, I'd leave Jander out entirely. Not only does that adventure shaft a really good character, it also contradicts canon -- Lathander wouldn't torture someone who had done his best to remain true.

I agree that my headcanon is a sad one -- but it's Ravenloft. There are no happy endings, there. A true and permanent death is pretty much the best thing someone there can hope for, aside from escaping entirely. Since the latter is damn near impossible, I think that a permadeath would be the best possible ending for Jander.

(That's part of why I don't really care for Ravenloft... I'm not into horror, in general, and when permanently dying while inconveniencing a bad guy that's going outlive and forget about you is one of the best possible endings, I'm not interested.)

Single becomes hard, because I'm already bringing back Lauzoril, Mythrella'a (yes, not Mythrellan), Lallara Mediocros, Yaphyll Sirtula, Sabass, Jorgmacdon Odesseiron, Dmitra Flass, etc... and it actually isn't all that hard to twist what's "known" into something that makes them alive.

-Conversely, characters do occasionally come back. I haven't read the books, but I do not understand why Malice Do'Urden was brought back, as opposed to just creating a new character to fill the (very weird, as I understand it) role.

Qilue. Testament to the fact that there is more than a single good drow running around Faerûn. And in this case, one who is looking to help the drow.

Don't forget about Liriel Baenre! I like Qilué, but Liriel is my fave good drow of the setting.

There's also Susprina Arkenneld. I don't think her alignment has ever been addressed, but I think it safe to say she's not evil.

And she also happily should still be alive in the 1490s, with a reasonable reading of the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide.

Ok, I missed this. How, when and where did Khelben die? Is there any written lore on this? And, since he was a Chosen, why wasn't he brought back?
Thanks!

It was in the novel Blackstaff.

And Chosen don't have a "get out of death free" card. Heck, one of the Seven Sisters was dead when the Realms was first published -- Syluné. We've had other canon deaths for Chosen, even before 4E happened.

On the Feast of the Moon, 1374 DR,[4] Khelben Arunsun brought together many powerful mages in order to cleanse part of the High Moor and restore Faer'tel'miir, a lost city of Miyeritar. In order to make the magic permanent, Khelben ultimately gave his own life, together with the Grand Mage Ualair the Silent. The restored city came to be known as Rhymanthiin, the Hidden City of Hope.

it happened in the Blackstaff novel in 2006

Khelben (though he isn't technically dead, recent material has his soul in the Blackstaff). Beyond that I'd like to see anyone one of dozens of interesting plotlines resurrected...but the timejump prevents that from ever happening unless they're just revisited as present plots.

I have a dream that one day, all game worlds will exist as one.

Totally agree on this one. If I could erase any Realms product from publication, this would be the first. It literally did nothing but kill off one of the most important NPCs of the realms, killed off another (that was already thought dead), and destroy numerous artifacts that could be the focus of a campaign (moonblades), in order to create a lame happy-go-lucky peace land that never did ANYTHING AT ALL EVER.

I'm going to contest this one.

First, the moonblades in question were dormant -- so I'm not sure how you're going to focus a campaign on a magic weapon that's fulfilled its function and lost its powers.

Secondly, it's not the fault of the author or the novel that further publications left the city alone. It's just one of many plot threads -- some going back to 2E -- that were unceremoniously ignored/abandoned/cut short by a design team that was eager to inflict its own "kewl" ideas on the setting.

Me, personally, I'd have Khelben stay dead for a while, then decide he had more to do, and come back to the Realms in a new form. Still a mage, still a Chosen, but with a new face and name. We know Khelben has lived under different identities before, so it's not a stretch to have him do it again. I'd even be tempted to have him return to Waterdeep as a "new" Blackstaff.

That's because.... ummmm..... secretly..... because it was a hidden city and noone knew where it was.... ummmmm..... it went to Abeir.... ummmm ....... and its only coming back now as a result of the Second Sundering.... ummmm ..... and now Khelben's mind can reunite with his body.... ummmm.... but first someone needs to bring the Blackstaff to Dweomerheart and ..... ummmm... touch it to... ummm... Qilue, because her death was completely pointless and unjustified, part of a plot development that Wizards now pretends never happened. As far as good-aligned drow go, she's far more interesting the Drizzt, and nowhere near as badly overused.
