I figured i would put this here to keep from having to post alot about my character on the Pblem with Sage thread. First im not sure what level we are starting out with, i need to know that... Second , BookWyrm i got Redblade but there are multiple ways of rolling up a characters abilities and i dont know which to use. and Third i need some help with my BG story, and would like some help with that.
My first BG idea is posted on the aforementioned thread. Any ideas about my character post them here

We are starting around ECL 7.
As to your background story I'm going to quote it here for easy reference. quote: His father Meteo was a human who was in ties with a black dragon(no name). They had an agreement, the Man would bring the dragon any merchants stupid enough to follow a complete stranger into a corrupted marsh, and any treasure that the merchants had. He did this for a share of the profits. The Pair's buiseness became pleasure and after serveral years the man decided it was time he retired from this nasty buisessness collect his share of the dragons horde and and leave the swamp. The Dragon didnt like this idea to much and Put the man into a cage in her sleeping room. After only a few weeks a Knight slew the mother dragon, and freed Meteo. When the two searched the caves surrounding the area they found an egg. Meteo took the egg and went with the knight to his castle/reaining school. Several years went by and Saurn trained in the ways of the knight and trained under a master swordsman known as a Kensai. When Meteo died Saurn left the castle.
Now hes traveled for about a year and ended up in Waterdeep with a few local farmers who blame him for their cattle being killed though he didnt do it.
Hmm not too bad. Have you decided on what weapon or style of fighting you want to use? Didn't you say something about a Heavy Pick? You may want to try to write something about why he chose that weapon. What happened to his father, is he still alive? Is he just traveling to see the world or is he on a certain quest? I'm just asking questions to try to get your imagination going |

I was thinking that his father is still alive as far as he knows. He is an adventureer as well and hasnt had contact with my char in a year or so. I still havent determined what weapon i will use. I was trying to think of somehting cool for His BG here are a few of my ideas: he was trained to be used as a weapon against invading armies/orc hordes/marauders he has set out to do his quest to become a kensai, which i have no idea what that could be. ill try to think of some more....

I don't care for half-dragons as much now... I really liked the 2e versions, though. To me, the new ones just don't have the same flavor. |

It hasn't yet been decided what system we're using for generating ability scores.
As for back ground, I have two points that pop in my head. First, why did his father take the egg? Did he know it was his offspring? And second, where did your character grow up, exactly? |

More questions.... I dont understand the racial hit dice thing under the Half Dragon template. Not sure how that works. Also does my character get a feat at first level and the bonus skill points that a human would since his base creature is human?

Well, first, it can't be too far away, since you suggested that he didn't set out with the express purpose of making it to Waterdeep -- merely heading in that general direction. Since he's first level, that limits things. Or is it longer? I'm not clear on the 3.5e template for half-dragons.
However, I do know that the only official race with an extra feat at first level as a racial feature is human. Your half-dragon is, technically, not human, so no. Sorry. |

Half Dragon is a template like feral or fiendish or so i am led to belive. Some of these template skeep there base creature and get stuff from it just like normal. The level adjustment is +3. And the link to the Halfdragon template is on Wotc under savage progressions i belive...

No, I found it. I hadn't noticed that the 3.5e SRD had a Monster section. I've got the template now.
It also says that the character's alignment is the same as the dragon type. So do you want your character to be evil? |

Sage might let you play a neutral black. You'd have to ask him. |

RogueAssassin, you do get the bonus feat, as the base creature is a human-you don't lose any qualities that aren't listed or altered in the template's entry. Secondly, you can play whatever alignment character you want to-Savage Species dealt with this, saying that 0.5(I believe) of a group of "Always [i]x" creatures were of another alignment. |

Oh, right, so he does get the feat. My mistake, I admit it . . .
Well, I suppose if some tieflings can be good and some asimar can be evil, then some half-blacks can be good. Though I'd suggest some good roleplay on your character's "darker nature." |

Well, now that we know we're using the 32-point version, just click on the drop-down selector in the Abilities window and select that. It's second from the bottom.
First, though, I'd suggest making a new race (even though, as Arivia just reminded me, it's a template). This way you can see exactly what your scores will be as you fiddle with the point-buy itself. Follow these steps to do so.
Go to the "Config" drop-down menu (next to the standard File) and select "Customize Campaign." This opens a sub-window.
Click on the "Races" tab. This will list all the races the program employs, meaning just the ones from the PHB. To the left of that list, you'll see two buttons. Click on "New Race."
This opens another sub-window. You won't be doing much here, though you can insert the special qualities of a half-black dragon in the window there if you want to be neat and tidy.
You want to do three things here. First, name the race "Half-Black Dragon." Second, select the "+1 bonus skillpoint per level" option. Finally, change the level adjustment to 3.
Now click on "Affects Character." You'll have a list of fields, almost all of which should say 0 at the moment. Make the following changes:
Base Strength 8.
Base Constitution 2.
Base Intelligence 2.
Base Charisma 2.
Bonus Skillpoints 4.
Bonus Class Feat 1.
General AC 10.
Natural AC 4.
Save all these changes, and select your new race when creating your new character. Note that the overall level now includes the ECL +3 adjustment, and the Abilities section will have your base stats in one column and your final ones in the second.
Let me know if you hit any snags. |
