Okay, I've read about how Lhaeo is actually Prince Haedrak, who was secretly raised away from Tethyr so he wouldn't be assassinated. However, I cannot find any information on how he ended up being Elminster's scribe. Can anyone provide me any information on that?

There are several sources that combine to give a pretty solid picture of King Haedrak III ("Lhaeo") and his history. The most direct, FR7 (Hall of Heroes), says that he was given directly to Elminster for his education and training at just 6 months old. By 1357- when he was just 22 years old- Lhaeo was known publicly as Elminster's scribe (this is as early as the 1st Edition boxed set). Lands of Intrigue holds some more details of Lhaeo's life, and if one really needs the information, the Scribe NPC class (of which Lhaeo is a member, of 11th level, according to FR7) can be found in issue #62 of Dragon.

Hmmm... thanks for the info. But I don't understand why Elminster would accept a six-month old child. We all know that the Sage of Shadowdale is quite eccentric and isn't the type to adopt waywarding children. Did Mystra have an impact on his decision?

Elminster has served in the 'fatherly' role several times in the past, most notably as a foster parent to three of Mystra's other Chosen - Sylune, Storm, and the woman who would later became the Simbul.

Perhaps there is more to Lhaeo than we actually know?.

Some writings on the WOTC site suggest that the new scribe of ELminster is a woman (who apparently maintians the appearance of Lhaeo). Anyone have more detials of this new "Lhaeo" at all?

Just My Thoughts

The details on Lhaeo's "adoption" can be found in the Lands of Intrigue boxed set by that worthy Steven Schend.

The new Lhaeo is quite mysterious. Ed has kept quiet about this individual on purpose, I'm guessing, to add a bit of mystery and spice to the Realms. And no, I know no more of her than the rest of you.

Hmm, might have to ping Ed after he finishes his taxes.

We can however assume, that she will at least play some part in the tales of Elminster that are still to be told?.

George, I already have Lands of Intrigue. It doesn't mention how Lhaeo ended up in Elminster's hands however.

Actually, information of this new individual is mentioned in Elminster in Hell.

I know about the Elminster in Hell reference. What I want to know is, whether we can expect any more information.

From his Excellency the Count of Alonmarch and his Majesty's Lord Historian, greetings.

His Royal Highness being so busy as to not be able to pen a missive himself, he asked if I should render a response via our loyal Chronicler.

Both the esteemed King Haedrak and myself remain hard at work, alongside the Court Sage Count Gamalon Idogyr and other worthies, on the Chronicla Tethyria, the official historical records of Tethyr. We approach the end of our 2nd full year of work and have only now received the bulk of comments from historians at the Vault of Sages and Candlekeep. Thus, this project of more estimable value for our kingdom remains our priority.

As it is, his royal highness also bids me tell you all that his biography is far in the future and he would choose to write that himself when the monarch's crown has passed on to his daughter and he has naught to worry him but the scraped knees of grandchildren. As the Princess Sybille only just celebrated her second birthday, the king regrets his tale shall be a long time before its full telling (and also to protect the lives and livelihoods of those who sheltered him through his youth, a secret shared with few in the South).

May the king and all his works prosper for many years to come, so say we all.

Count Vartan Thrynnar, Seneschal of the King's Library

Heavy parchment, lovely green wax seal, exquisite handwriting; I've missed these missives from the Realms the past few years.

As for game info, I doubt there'll be much call for that until they update LOI for 3.5E; while I find him fascinating, Lhaeo/Haedrak is really a minor figure in the marketing sense of the Realms. Until he's been at least second fiddle in a novel, he doesn't show up on the radar as a salable or interesting figure for focus. <shrug> Maybe I'll send a query and see if WotC'd be interested in something for their website....hmm.......

Steven

I guess that the brief description in Lands of Intrigue - Tethyr, p.35 isn't sufficient. The only thing I can see that need's adding is that Alustriel of Silverymoon gave Lhaeo to Elminster. A Harper thing from the looks of it.

Hmm... well that leads to ANOTHER question. How did Alustriel get Lhaeo? Lol.

Ummm ... if you read the LOI page I quoted you'll note he was born in Silverymoon.
