Yet another email from the Sage -
quote: The Magic Shop here at Candlekeep, will soon be reaching it's first anniversary since the grand opening on the 28th April 2003. To commerate this semi-unique event, I was wondering whether anybody here has any special suggestions (now this includes both the scribes and staff of Candlekeep) to help make this celebration as grand (or maybe better) as Candlekeep's birthday a few weeks ago?.
I know it's a little strange to get excited about something like this, but the Magic Shop has been a continuing element of Candlekeep for so long now, that we would be remiss in our duties as scribes of Realmslore to let this event pass without notice.
So, if anyone has any ideas on what we should do, please post them here, that is, if Alaundo will allow this scroll to remain open.

Well met
Indeed Sage, indeed. 'tis certainly worthy of a celebration In fact, Tethtoril has been working extremely hard over the past few weeks in collating a cataloged tome of the Magic Shop's contents for display in the library. An update is due within the next few days, within which will be the said tome
Call it a birthday present from Candlekeep to the contributors of the Magic Shop, if you will... and vise versa |

As a special part of the anniversary, I'm also trying to get several special magical items together for posting. I can't make any promises though, but I'll try my best to have them ready on time...

How about some type of contest to celebrate and get more people interested? Maybe submitting unique spells or magical items and letting the official Candlekeep staff decide whos is most original and intriguing in each category? I have no idea what the prize could be perhaps just the notoriety of winning would be enough
(added later)Perhaps we could allow everyone to vote for their favorite spells and items? Either of new ones entered specifically for the contest or even out of the whole list? |

They are some good suggestions Wood Elf, although I don't believe there is enough material from each category - favorite spells in particular - for votes on favorites to be cast . . .
I think your first suggestion though, deserves a little more attention. I'll discuss it with Sage and see what he thinks.

Indeed, Happy Anniversary! Though in my long period of being here, both with my old account, and the newer Shadowlord, I have only contributed about 5 things to the shop, I'm sure others have been more diligent... |

Ah, friend Bookwyrm, that is a secret I am hesitant to tell. Perhaps I'll tell you later, someday in the Year of Rogue Dragons... |

Okay, now you got me all curious.
Alaundo, I've just looked through the (rather nice) Shop in the main library. I noticed two things that can be made better, of course. First, many of my items still have question marks in things like price, so I ought to fix those for you. Second, why are there different font sizes used throughout the list? |

That's font size, not font. I think you know the difference, so I won't bore you with the details... Funny, I noticed it too. It's on my Pendant of Merciless Regeneration as well... |

Any contribution to the Magic Shop is valued Shadowlord, whether it is just one item, or one hundred different items .

At least three of the items the Sage has posted are actually my own creations, but at the time, I wasn't an enrolled scribe here at Candlekeep, so I couldn't post them. I have a few others that I wish to add to the Shop, but I'm sure at least two of them are unbalanced.
I might post them anyway, just for possible suggestions.

I'm sure we'd appretiate your contributions, nontheless. Certainly, some of my own items have been unbalanced, and yet, they were fixed with help from certain scribes. |

Yes, go ahead. I've gotten the hang of "balance" since my early days.
Who knows? I might get inspired enough to start creating things myself again. |

I'm beginning to understand why the Sage thinks of Candlekeep as his 'home-away-from-home' .

Alaundo, I may ask you to change the contributor name for several of the magical items that I created in the Shop (in the main library), if it's not too much trouble . . .
I don't think Sage will mind . . .

Certainly, Lady Kazandra. Simply send your list to Tethtoril and it will be addressed.
I will also inform Tethtoril to apply the changes regarding your name, Arivia. |

Alaundo, I have software that allows me to create PDFs, if you wish I could create a downloadable version of the book, in PDF format, as IMHO it would be a lot easier for play use. I for one would definitely print and use this! Of course it would be better waiting until after the Birthday celebrations! And perhaps the Sage Consent.

Thank ye, Elrond Half Elven. Indeed, Tethtoril had collated the works in a Word Document and my intention is to convert this to PDF to offer as a download. However, I have instructed Tethtoril to hold back on this task as he is busy reformatting the Sage's Magic Shop into a more managable size (A seperate contents page linking to different pages for each category). The PDF will be made available after this and after the latest items have been added to the shop from herein the forum
I'm intrigued as to what tool you use though, Elrond, if it is indeed another method from that which we use here currently. Please contact me personally. Thank ye |
