| I just hope that it covers more than the series of WotC articles did... Those articles were great, but they abruptly kicked that series to the curb. IIRC, there were one or two articles Ed had written and submitted that WotC had but never did anything with. |

I'm hoping Ed will follow through on his plans to write "Volo mini-guides" for all the locales Mirt visits, too...)

That's one of the things I hate, series of articles stopping clearly way before their time. In my Realms notes there are more than a couple of series names with the references to the magazines numbers and then "why does it stop?!? [expletives]" |

Long ago, before my banning from the WotC forums, I was participating in a discussion on web features. The general consensus was "they did X, Y, and Z, and they were all awesome, but then they dropped them and we'd like them back!"
That was when I commented that maybe WotC could do a poll or something and simply ask people what they wanted... And a WotC staffer came in and commented that they had no need to do that; they had their own ways of determining what we liked and wanted.
That one post made me lose a hell of a lot of respect for WotC. |

It is updated for the current timeline of the Realms and while some of the information is repeated, much is not. It also details several BK places that Ed never got to go to in the original article series and then later on the WotC website series.

I'd signed up, here, but I wasn't active until WotC banned me and I had just two options: sign up again under a different name and not acknowledge that my prior login had been banned, or call it off and just never post there again. At the time I was referring to, though, when the WotC person said they didn't need to ask us what we wanted -- at that time, the only questionable thing they'd done was ban discussions of novels in a rather heavy-handed fashion.

I photocopied all the articles and PDF-ed them long ago. Much easier to access that way.

I got my PDF as well, it's a little more adult then other stuff in 5e, it mentions escorts, festhalls, brothels, and so on, which no other product has in 5e to my knowledge, so your characters know where to go to get laid in the Border Kingdoms, which really amuses me more then it should.
I look forward to seeing Gameholecons adventurers. |

| I finished reading the book yesterday. My only complaints are that I would have liked to have seen more maps and a larger one for the region, and that it could have used one more pass from an editor -- there were several typos and such that jumped out at me. |

I go with the WOTC effectively destroyed D&D for money shortly after they managed to effectively destroyed MTG for money. |

Opinion and sales are not the same thing. You may not like something, but if it's moving a lot of units and making a nice profit for the owners, then it's doing well.
I've no interest in the 5E ruleset, myself, but from what I've read, it's put D&D back on top of the RPG ruleset -- a position they'd lost to Pathfinder, during the 4E era. And they're continuing to put out new stuff... So, other than your opinion of it's worth, all factual indicators are that it's doing well. |
