HELLO CANDLEKEEP! I been a while since my last post.Man its great having my Comp working again. OK now on subject: I was just wondering if you were still accepting players into the group. I would like to join your group. Im pretty young(16) and im fairly new to the dnd scene(been playing for 3 years), and ive been looking for a chance to get into a game with some experianced people. I would really enjoy playing with your group. I have also played for a few months on IRC. If you already have a full group then I understand but if you dont mind i would like to view some of your sessions. Please respond.
Unfortunately, I've just reached my limit. However, I will...*adds RogueAssassin to the lurker list*.
Ack! You have answered their queries, but not mine? You're slipping, Arivia... To repeat, I'm thinking of having an Amnian halfling rogue, who is also an ex-member of the Shadow Thieves, because he killed another assassin, and is now hunted for it... Acceptable? Once again, I forgot to switch accounts, this is Shadowlord...

Oops. Sorry. Good idea, Shadowlord/Graxx. And I might be slipping...I need a small amount of that timewaster called "slumber" by some, "reverie" by others, and to some, "what causes the evil daystar to appear".
Thanks for your approval. I thought it might give you an opportunity to send assassins after him/his companions, and have my halfling seem to keep a secret from the rest of the party...

I realized a few minutes ago, that my intent with that informational package had completely changed. As such, there's actually not that much more to address.
There are three more pieces that need to be addressed, and that's it...
Ability Generation
Roll 4d6 seven times, discarding the lowest die each time. Then, discard one result, and arrange the other six results as desired.

If you are interested in creating custom content(as I know the Bookwyrm can be given to) or utilizing the optional rules from Unearthed Arcana or from some other tome, email me at arivia1@hotmail.com. Any other questions, concerns, and such can be directed there.
You have an ungodly length of time...
To design your characters. They're due around(around, for purposes of timezones and such) May 9th. If you'd like to hand them in earlier, then they will be accepted gladly. As this is an email campaign(I'm not sure if this goes without saying or not), a detailed background is a must. A list of what books and such you've used for creating the character(the stats side of things, I mean), would make my job slightly easier.
Oh, and as of right now, I don't know what area you're starting off in, actually. I'd like to craft this to fit the characters, and as such, this'll be up in the air for awhile.

Ooh! You don't have a particular punisher in mind, do you...*eyes begin to gleam, and an evil grin appears...*
Actually, I do. Why don't we discuss via etheral mail? You'll find my address listed above.

Sounds good to me...Thanks. Now all I have to do is figure out what class she's going to be and get her to the surface. (But I've got 3 years from her turning "adult" to her "completeing her training" - that whole starting age plus role random dice thing...) So you may get a book! I actually got confirmation, there aren't currently portals but outlanders are welcome in the adventurer's guild within the city...so I think I may have her join an adventuring party and head to the surface...sound okay?

I've decided I'm going to play an Aasimar hailing from the Gem of the North, Silverymoon itself I'll send you (Arivia) my character description and stats and everything as soon as I figure them out. Most likely by Sunday if not sooner

Also, if this is going to be email (which, in my opinion, is better for roleplay than instant messenger services), you're going to make it possible to lurk, right? I might like to join after getting a handle on your style.
Yep, Bookwyrm, if I can figure out how. I'm still trying to get a handle on what should go where...
The way Mumadar does it is sign up for a Yahoo! Group, placing all players and lurkers on the member list. (As the controller, you also control the people who join this list.) One member can send an email to this address (say, AriviasGame@yahoogroups.com), and it's imeadiately forwarded to all members. The email carries the sender, not the group, as the origion, but puts the group name ("[ArivasGame]") in the subject, and the reply address is the group.
This doesn't allow pre-editing by the DM, but it also doesn't require constant supervision. Mumadar, at least, compiles the different replies, puting the posts in as close to a natural order as possible, then sends it as a whole bunch. That's especially important in combat, where order is necessary (actions are compiled in order of initiative, with a summery of player conditions -- injured, scratched, dying, in melee, etc -- following the gestalt).
I hope that helps. Now, I think I'll play around with a character; since I'm an auxilary, I can take my time. I'm impressed with your trust, by the way -- the whole point of point-buy is to make certain that no one's fudging the results, so I was surprised at your willingness to allow actual dice rolls. Still, I suppose if anyone here ends up an all-out munchkin, their character might suddenly and mysteriously . . . die.

Except, of course, occasionally a message will go astray and not be recieved. I've had several happen to me, and only one reapeared -- about ten days later, after the combat round was finished.

I don't really like that Yahoo groups idea. Yes it would be much easier but I also think it would get very confusing. I think it would be better if we sent our characters intentions to Arivia and let her edit them as needed or just copy/paste in a sequential order then send them back with her own DM's narration. Also then we could send her private questions and notes. For example I could send Arivia two options for what my character would do depending on if I rolled high enough or not compared to her check then she could just copy/paste the result. Its up to Arivia really I'm just guessing here what it might be like since I've never played this way before. I guess we will just have to try and see how it works out

Salabasha, that doesn't sound like a balanced class. It even has "unbalanced" in the file name. Just the first two qualities make it so, forgetting all the rest. Never mind that both those qualities are available at first level.

Yes, and when a Chosen of Vhaeraun agrees with a mithril dragon . . . .

Arivia, are we limited in class selection?. I'm just wondering from which tomes I can select a class for my PC from. Are you allowing classes from non-WotC material?. Also, what about homebrew core classes, are they a valid choice?.

Hmm...I think, for you, the best rule would be if the Sage approves it, then it's fine. I'd still like to see them, but use him as a reference first.

God, I feel so unoriginal. I can't think of a good name for a such a group. Anyone have any ideas?

It'll work well enough.

Are you willing to sign up for such? It's a free service, and is separate from the email service they provide...
Alright. As someone else asked, from what tomes are you allowing classes and PrCs?

To add on to Shadowlords question how many PrC's are we allowed to have? Starting at first level I know it doesn't matter that much except thinking ahead to make sure you get all the requirements. Anyways I'm asking because I would like my Aasimar character to be a Fighter/Divine Champion(from FR Campaign Setting)/Knight-errant of Silverymoon(from Silver Marches) Of course if you only want us taking one PrC I will choose between them but it would really round out my character the way I want to have both.

Still, I can't use shields or ranged weapons, I can't Multi Class, I don't get a lvl 1 feat, I have to keep a maintained ranks in sing and dance. And wardancing doesn't work till lvl 2.
How about Arivia, to make it more fair, I take a deduction in exp for group kills? While others gain full, I only gain 50% - 75% of what I would normanlly get. Sound better?
Life is like a box of chocolates. Once you eat the poisoned one you die.
Alright. As someone else asked, from what tomes are you allowing classes and PrCs?
If you can justify the class, and it's not unbalanced nor unsuited for the setting(ie: psionics), then it should be fine.
Oh, and I've never seen a rule on how many PrCs a particular character could have-it just goes against what one of the main strengths of 3e's multiclassing system. So, that means there's no limit.

A restriction like that stinks of munchkinism, and isn't something I'll do. It especially makes no sense in what is shaping up to be a roleplaying-based campaign.
Thank Arivia, I'll do just that. If I get the time I'll send a copy of any alternate class I use, along to you, so you can also then judge for yourself the viability of using it.
"Once upon a time the plural of 'wizard' was 'war'." -- The Last Continent, by Terry Pratchett
I'd love to see how this would work...as the class would immediately set the character against the majority of the Marches! Besides, half the class features aren't explained in any detail, and it's just a piece of shoddy design. No. Whatever happened to using the normal classes in your eyes, anyway?
