This is an oppinion question for all of you who have read The Lone Drow. Do you really think that Drizzt is really just a tool blessed by Lolth to carry out her grand design of chaos. Any input on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks

For those who don't like to read rants, skip to the bottom

I believe that Drizzt is a favored of Lolth. I believed this before The Lone Drow was published. It was solely because of him that a house war, which usually lasted a few hours, was extended to 10 years. Lolth herself ordered a final confrontation, and the ensuing actions lead (In a weird, drow-type of way) to Matron Baenre leading an attack against Mithril Hall. That eventually led to Drizzt going back down to his homeland, and dropping a chapel on said Matron. The CHAOS that ensued stirred up one of the few constants in Drow society. Matron Baenre had been the leader of the city for what, 2000 years?

Favored, Not Tool
Recap: Drizzt has renounced the Spider Queen, and is not a direct tool of her. He causes chaos, yes, but no more so than some other adventurers. Lolth may enjoy the chaos he spreads, but as was said in, I believe, Exile, Drizzt cannot be punished/driven/smited/etc directly by Lolth.

I never gave any real weight to the idea that Drizzt would be a chosen/favoured of Lolth. More likely, she seized the opportunity of his defection to throw some chaos the Drow's way... By putting forth the idea that killing him would bring whichever Drow accomplised it into her favour.

The idea that he is a chosen is put forth in the novel by a cleric of Lolth, Kaer'lic I think her name is. She, in her fanatical devotion to the spider queen, has to somehow rationalize how Drizzt could have possibly survived all the Matron Mothers questing after him. And why Lolth has *ahem* "allowed" Drizzt to kill so many high-ranking priestesses. When really, Drizzt has just shown how limited Lolth's reach can be once he escaped from Menzoberranzan and the Underdark entirely.

If Drizzt is favoured by any deity, it would be Mielikki. Drizzt has met (and touched) a Unicorn - a pretty good sign that Lolth holds no sway over him what-so-ever.

I'd have to say Drizzt seems neither favored, nor a tool of Lolth's. She is a deity of chaos and chaos by its nature is a lack of control. I have no doubt she may have had something to do with his survival at birth, but that's chaos, she had no idea what he would do.
I've just started reading the WOSQ and it appears that she instigates her own silence, unknowing of what might occur and that's what she seemed to enjoy about it. Drizzt would be like one more variable, one more thread in her web of chaos.

Don't think it is possible - Drizzt has a wrong aligment (for drow), he hates Lloth, worships Mielikki, how can he be a chosen of Lloth. Maybe a drow priest(ess) who kills Drizzt can become a chosen of Lloth.
