my question is why is it only showing up on Amazon.ca and not the main site? :P Amazon.com doesn't even locate it by ISBN or name (other than the 2nd Ed game book...)

Likely an administrative slip. I'd bet on it disappearing in a few days, once they realize what they've done.

Probably an elaborate April Fool's prank hatched by Amazon Canada to get back at us for stealing Celine Dion from their country and making her sing in Las Vegas shows for several years before she regains her freedom!

Although, it's probably true. A online book chain releases information on a new product before the actual company. Classic WOTC handling of the FR world as of late.

Oh no! As soon as her contract is up, she's on her way back. However, we are keeping Keifer Sutherland!

LOL! A Weapon of Mass Destruction all by herself. No offense to Celine fans as I actually have liked some of her songs. Even if they were played again and again ...and again on every radio station I seemed to turn to.

I agree about Celine's, well..."interesting"...voice. Although she doesn't get played at all on the stuff I listen to...

Wow, an actual chance to apply my day-job knowledge!

You most likely see things pop up on Amazon (and other sources that the average joe doesn't see, like Ingram and Baker & Taylor) because on-line retailers and data aggregators constantly ask for information on forthcoming titles far, far in advance, often farther in advance than the publisher's own sales and marketing-driven public release schedule. They also generally take at least part of that information in the form of feeds from warehouses and production schedules - sometimes when the publisher doesn't necessarily want them to (we've had books show up on Amazon as soon as they've been assigned an ISBN in our system, even though actual publication may be 2-3 years away).

The result is cases like this where a book unexpectedly shows up on a listing, generally with minimal information (ISBN, author, title, etc.) - this is the kind of information that comes from a simple data feed while the enriched content (book descriptions, cover images) comes along later.

As for why this particular listing is showing on Amazon.ca instead of Amazon.com, there could be several reasons. Amazon.ca does, in fact, run on slightly different processes (which is strange considering they operate out of the same offices) and picks things up in different ways. They may be picking this up from a feed from WotC's Canadian distributor while the American distributor has successfully filtered it from the feed to Amazon.com. In fact, I'd guess this is exactly what's happening because it's listing a Canadian price (if they draw it out of an American source, they show a conversion listing).

Or in some cases... on books that were to come out... only to be cancelled and, were until recently still listed on said sites as "Out of Print" or "Currently Unavailable" or "Special Order".... *cough*NeverwinterNightsAnthology*cough*

The Chosen of Vhaeraun

Wow. I'm dragged out of bed because of some very important news, and it turns out to be . . .. Celine.

So, the beans have been spilled, as it were. Yes, my FR product is the Shining South, and as far as I know, it's still slated to be released in November. That's as much as I'm willing to say at this point, though, simply because Wizards does not have any information up on their site, and I do NOT want to be agitating them.

(Yes, it's far better to agitate all of you . . . right. )

So, when I see a page on WotC's site revealing the product, I'll happily share what I can, but for now, let the gnashing of teeth commence, because I must regretfully remain mum.

Oh really.....? Do you want me to find a way to send you a Celine Dion CD?

Looking forward to you being able to talk more about this product whe you can. The second half of the year is going to be quite busy with releases for you.

Didn't he say this last week???!! Wait, was he going by FR time, where it would be every five days = one day there, so by that standard, his comment that it would be any day means......Hold on, does someone have a calculator???

If you are going by what is in the FRCS, Rich said a few months back that they are behind on what they originally printed in the FRCS. :)

Richard Baker posted on page 14 of the, "Ask The Core Rules and Supplement Authors" thread on 01-05-04 at 12:55 PM.

"Kythorn 1, 1373. We haven't really stuck with our intended world progression as well as we wanted to. I'm afraid I couldn't give you a good answer about "Thousand Orcs," try over on the book boards.

Hey Rich I hope you enjoyed your time off! I have a question that I feel a bit silly for asking but as of FRPG what is the game world month year. I remember in the FR 3.0 source you mentioned a rough 5months in the real world=2months game time, however that doesn't really give a reference of when we should start counting from. And perhaps this is a little off topic but in the 1000 Orc novels what is the relational timeline in the game? Really enjoying the thread and thanks for answering us!

Thanks for that post Kuje. I had mentioned in another scroll that Richard Baker had made these comments. However, I did not have it saved, nor the mental energy to go to the WOTC board and find it.

I will say this regarding the current year. Mr. Byers is steadily moving the timeline forward with The Rage.

No problem. I've cut and pasted it a few times over on the WOTC boards so I knew how to search for it in my old replies. :)

Well, then, I guess the jig is up.

So yep, my latest contribution to the Realms is a 192-page sourcebook on the Shining South. It covers (from north to south, then west to east) The Shaar, The Great Rift, The Eastern Shaar, Veldorn, Halruaa, Dambrath, Luirien, Estagund, Var the Golden, and Durpar, with some tidbits on lands east of there (off the map).

It follows the same format as Unapproachable East, so it has the requisite chapters on feats, prestige classes, magic items, and spells.

There you go.

Thomas, how much coverage is there on Veldorn? Ive always been quite intrigued by it but very little information exists in previous FR products.

Since this product is an RPG book, rather than a novel, I started a thread in the RPG Products forum and answered your question there. That way, people who don't pay attention to the novels but want to know more about the Shining South can see it. And Alaundo will be happy, too.
