Does anyone know how much a member of the Waterdeep Watch gets paid? I've looked through City of Splendors and can't find it.
Thanks

BobROE, you may have better luck asking this, in the 'Questions for Ed Greenwood' scroll in the Novels section...
I was just seeing if anyone else knew before I bothered Ed about it. |

BobROE, I'm not sure about this, but I you can make it around 5 or 6 sp a day. I remember reading in Elminster in Hell about how a guardsman was killed in an ambush and the widow was only given forty silver pieces... |

Jeez. I know that death pay for cops is pretty low in most cities, but only forty silver? That's chicken feed. |

Indeed...
The touts in Sigil receive more pay for their weeks work than that... And all they do is act to guides for newly arrived visitors to the City of Doors.

Bookwyrm, this is true. It's straight off from Elminster in Hell when there was a chapter that talked about Mirt when he was still in a mercenary general. This was why the widow of that dead soldier eventually had to become a prostitue so she could feed her and her two daughters. However, I think there's a change now in that since there's like a whole bunch of new lords and they actually care more for the common people. |

Learned Scribe BobROE,
Here is the information you seek, fellow scribe:
quote: Pay
A watch member receives 25 gp upon joining, plus a free uniform, a pair of boots, training, and (one) weapon. If dismissed without completing training, all must be returned except 12 gp.
Thereafter the watch member receives free room and board at assigned watch barracks (bunk, small beer, simple fare, bath access, weapon oil; need not be accepted, or can be taken up only on a casual "feel like it tonight" basis), plus 5 sp per day (active duty or not), plus 4 sp per patrol (normally only one patrol per day per watch person, the day normally being divided into three slightly-overlapping shifts/patrols). Officers receive the same 5 sp rate, but 5 sp, 7 sp, or 1 gp per patrol, depending on rank.
The watch member also receives one replacement uniform, a pair of boots, and an additional weapon per year; others must be paid for out of salary. (Additional weapons and gear are often issued "for free" out of armory lockups for patrol use, but must be returned or replaced.)
To learn more about the City Watch, please read City of Splendors: Waterdeep, a Forgotten Realms supplement.
Best regards,
